Did they talk about this too? In the About "Cold Wind Blows" box on Rap Genius they wrote that the song is about "In the opening track off Recovery, Eminem gets icy towards “pussies”, both the male kind and the female kind."
But BethHart wrote in comments that -
"Actually upon re-reading and then re-reading what Nick Cannon has said, I think this whole song is in response to them two! It doesn't make any sense any other way, cuz he's talking to more than one person, and some of it is too targeted. "I told you aint no way to shush me"
Em has never just tossed random, sentences in there like this. This has to be another response to Nick Cannon, saying he best shut his mouth, plus all the lines regarding Em's treatment of women.
Nick - "Maybe I'm going too far, but I thought we got past the days where white men could spew vulgar obscenities at our beautiful queens and get away with it. What's next? Are we going to let this trash say something horrible about our lovely first lady, Mrs. Michelle Obama? Or would Marshall have talked sideways out of his neck like this about Oprah Winfrey? This act of racist bigotry cannot go unnoticed. Calling my wife a 'c---' and a 'whore' is way worse than anything Don Imus could have ever said. So trust, repercussions will be served. ...
Em - "If you don't like it, you can kiss my ass in a lint thong
Now sing along, slut
Slut, learn the words to the song!
"Oh, bitches don't like that"
Homie, I'll be nicer to women when Aquaman drowns
And the Human Torch starts swimming"
Anyone else think this?" ---
http://rapgenius.com/lyrics/Eminem/Cold-wind-blowsA guy bpop replies
"i disagree that the whole song is about m+n, especially the lines you quoted as they're explained above as being a stab at sluts who dance to derogatory songs without listening to them, not something specifically aimed at m+n"
But then she comes back with the rest of what Cannon said, which I had totally forgotten about, I don't know why cuz it was just last year, now I think she's on to something..
"bpop Yeah is saying that. ( I think she meant Yeah he is saying that) He said that same thing on Relapse. What I'm saying he's reminding Nick that he's never been nice to women. Go Back and listen to The Warning, & what nick wrote on his blog, then come back an re-read this song. He calls this imaginary rapper "Homie" just like Nick called him. Nick - "you are my new full time job “homey”" Also don't forget Nick called Em "Miss Mathers". If this whole song is not a direct response to M & N. Then it's the most unfocused song in the history of Rap.
It doesn't make since any other way. one line he's beating and dissing women in general, the next Nick Cannon, and the next an imaginary rappers, then back to nick and Mariah again?? Come-on Eminem has never ever done that before... Taken on it's face, he makes this huge leap from making fun of women who dance to songs without learning what they mean, to "This shit is on cuz you went and pissed me off" out of no-where?? No way, not Eminem, one thing ALWAYS relates in some way, to another with Em!
"Yeah I laugh when I call you a slut, and "Yeah struck a nerve sucker" - "yeah" he says it twice, he's answering someone. And the nerve he struck was Nicks when he called his wife whore, slut and cunt. "*So* puff the buddha light a bong. But take a look at Mariah next time I inspire you to write a song." - Yeah I'm dissing your hoe, cuz I'm a cold hearted mean cocksucker and now you pissed me off, "So" this song is for you" and "So" if you don't want me to pounce on your bitch you best think about her next time I inspire you to write a song.
HOWEVER some people at Em's gathering holes think "But take a look at Mariah next time I inspire you to write a song" Isn't addressed to Nick. Because of placement of "you'll get your Butt kicked" They think he using the word "Trick" Cuz Tricky co-wrote "Obsessed". It's the Equivalent of "Miss Mathers", He uses telling trick he's gonna make him his bitch, and calling Trick a homo/feminine who's gonna get his but kicked, to lead into calling Mariah a slut, to either tell Nick or tricky or both if they don't want him to continue to pounce on Mariah, they better think about her next time Em inspires them to write a song.
Nick Cannon "it's On" -
Em - The warning, he told em - "Now I'm pissed" he was so pissed about "Obsessed" he was "hair away from being sued"
CWB - This shit is on cuz you went and piss me off.
NOW here's the rest of what Cannon wrote to Em -
"I’m taking full action on you Eminem. I don’t know why no one has stood up to your bitch ass yet. But I guess it’s going to take a corny, wack rapping, boy toy from Nickelodeon to set you straight. And trust, I am going to be relentless. Even though I got a lot of other obligations and occupations, you are my new full time job “homey”! As a matter of fact, I think you going to bring my wack rhymes out of retirement! That’s right haters; you can thank Eminem because I’m going to start rapping again! LOL Just for him! And don’t forget about the jokes! We coming at you Hard body!! Non-stop on your Manic-depressive-Insecure-Maclovin-Nazi-Liza Minelli haircut havin-lookin ass!! [Pause] That’s what I do all day Bitch!"
"So, Miss Marshall, I'm going to make you wish you never spoke my name and regret the ungodly things you said about my wife. This is going to be fun! It's however you want it! Just remember, you did this to yourself! Your legacy has now been tainted from this day forth! You will now be known as the rapper who lost to corny-ass Nick Cannon!"
Now go back and Read verse two of this song! If he ain't responding to Nick's threat of battling him, then Em has lost his mind! Cuz A - it ain't like him to let shit like that go with one song (the warning) he's pounced on people far longer, for FAR FAR less than what these two dummies did to him! and B - it doesn't make sense.
He goes back to pouncing on Mariah, for one last warning warning in verse three.
Nick - "I thought we got past the days where white men could spew vulgar obscenities at our beautiful queens and get away with it."
Em - "Oh, bitches don't like that"
""Homey", I'll be nicer to women when Aquaman drowns, and the Human Torch starts swimming"
The warning - "Wow Mariah, didn't expect you to go balls out"
CWB' "pussy - cut off the grapes and grow a pair, But I swear, you try to diss me I'll slaughter you"
Girl grow a pair of balls, but try to diss me again, and he'll make good on his threat!
But he wasn't finished, he went off again on Nicks threat to end his Career in Won't Back Down. There he taunts him.
Eminem's NEVER not used personal event's or feelings about something to write a song. Even when making up stories, like on relapse he said, he'd use even the smallest of things that personally effected him, and blow-up way out of proportion. Also He left shady off of this album, and Random Woman beatings on an EMINEM/Marshall Album is highly unlikely. 2 - Em said he didn't write songs on Recovery just for the hell of it like he did on Relapse. He wanted them all to have a reason for existing, like the work he did on his first 4 Albums, so went back to getting more personal. He wrote about what was happening in his life at the time.
I'm telling ya, this is a response to Nick, Mariah, and likely Trick too. "
------------------------------------------------------------
She also makes a good point about the critics saying these meaningless random battle songs don't fit on the album next to the more meaningful ones. in pointing out that they do have meaning
"It's interesting that people (critics) listening to Recovery, have criticized the album for these songs, because they think he's just randomly spewing venom at women, gays, celebs, etc for no reason, and feel thses, make no sense along side of meaningful songs like GTC, T2M, Not Afraid, space bound, LTWYL, and YNO. Besides the fact that was VERY smart of him to flex his verbal muscles after all the personal weakness's he exposes in those songs, It's like they've forgotten who Em is. He's never written a song that isn't about his life, his feelings, his people, his beliefs, etc... They do all have meaning, but he just hasn't been the center of attention in awhile, so people haven't kept up with what is going on with him, and therefore don't get what it is! But when I come across people online who repeat this same stuff about the songs having to reason for existing, I explain it to them, and then bam, it's ohhh now that makes sense", and they get it."
So is anyone else feelin what she sayin here? That it's one long response in metaphors, rather than just spewing venom for no reason? I was gonna back her up there cuz if there is a majority
consensus RapGenius will change the about and help make it more clear, for people. If this site is gonna become the lyrical bible, it has the potential to be able to show the best lyricist so I wanna make sure his genius shines through.
