“It’s something that, you know, we’ve both experienced, you know, on different sides, different ends of the table. He pretty much just broke down the cycle of domestic violence and it’s something that people don’t have a lot of insight on.I knew if he sent me a record there must be something to it. It couldn’t just be, ‘Oh, Duh! She was in that relationship so we have to get her.The lyrics were so deep, so beautiful and intense. It’s something that I understood, something I connected with”.

How can she respect someone who has experienced domestic violence on a "different end of the table". She basically says "he beats his wife, I got beat, we make good music".

Is money really THAT powerful a motivator?

I don't think Em ever really beat on Kim. He just let her have it in his music.

I think she might be saying he's experienced it from the viewpoint of a male.

he did a couple of times but he would let it go and let kim take over him :facepalm
on-topic: good to see her take em's side .

I think he never hit Kim until he became an addict. That's when he became an unpredictable/violent/selfish asshole.
