Oh sorry i didn't realise that "classic" means "it sold a lot"

I guess that makes Kesha's debut album a classic too then right? And Lady GaGa's shit?

If you're talking about commercial success without the two songs then yes you have a point and i agree, but i thought we meant in terms of quality.

Yes I think that it would be.

It may not of been as commercially huge, although I still think it would of been as... well, let's face it - to say those two songs were the sole reason of that album and Eminem's buzz and massive success then is just silly lmao. And a gross over simplification of the whole situation.

That album is a masterpiece. It's not just a great album, it's an artistic masterpiece, it's a single-forced piece of bigotry, a gigantic cock of reactionary genius rammed directly into the ass of censorship.

And, those two songs really only summarized that mindset / point, to a very small degree. You take away those two songs and you just take away two very nice pieces in the puzzle, but take away its entire mojo? Absolutely not. Without those the tracklist would be...

1. Public Service Announcement 2000
2. Kill You
3. Stan feat. Dido
4. Paul (skit)
5. Who Knew
6. Steve Berman
7. Remember Me feat. RBX and Sticky Fingaz
8. I'm Back
9. Marshall Mathers
10. Ken Kaniff (skit)
11. Drug Ballad
12. Amityville feat. Bizarre
13. Bitch Please II
14. Kim
15. Under the Influence feat. D12
16. Criminal
17. The Kids

...Still looks like a brain-spinning classic to my eyes and I'm pretty sure it'd still sound like one too. If those songs weren't there you simply wouldn't know they didn't exist. You wouldn't listen to that set of tracks and finish with the thought "hmm, something was missing" lmao, you mind would still be blown.

You could probably cut out about 20 minutes of Pulp Fiction and it'd still be one of the best films ever made. Short chunks can define some of the spirit, but it's the collective nature of art that breeds that final result and... those two songs, or any two songs alone I don't think are important enough to take away its feel as a whole.

A more relevant proposition would be, if you took away "Stan" and "Kim". As those, are the two pivotal artistic tracks which take it to a new level.

Em Base, I was hoping that you would eventually respond to this thread. The only thing I agree with is that it would still be an important album even without those 2 songs. But for it to be considered arguably his best album to date without those 2 songs, I don't think it would be. I consider The Real Slim Shady to be the perfect 1st single for the album, I don't think any other song from that album would of fit as the 1st single as well as that song was. If that song never made the album like it did, it wouldn't of had me hooked to it like I was at the time. and then on to The Way I Am, since that song ended up being my favorite song on the album, it was the standout song on the album for me. Looking at the tracklist you put up, it looks like a good album. I just don't think I would of liked it as much without those 2 songs. I'm not saying that those 2 songs make the album a classic, but I feel like they were a big part of it since they were the first 2 singles that got me hooked to the album in the first place. So, what I'm trying to say is that MM LP would have still been an important album in his catalogue even without those 2 songs. But, I don't think it would of been considered arguably the best album by his fans.

The album could still be a classic, but it obviously wouldn't be as good.
