Attempting to divine the answer to that question had become quite the intense parlour game on Twitter over the past few weeks.
But even the most optimistic of guesses - and among the big names bandied about online were heavyweights such as The Foo Fighters, The Strokes, Daft Punk and The Beastie Boys - fell far short of the coup that organizers of the annual music and arts festival on Parc Jean-Drapeau have scored for their sixth edition.
Eminem, the best-selling rapper on the planet - and, with all apologies to Snoop Dogg, the biggest hip-hop name to play Osheaga yet - will perform at an expanded version of the festival this summer, the first time the Detroit MC has set foot on a Montreal stage in more than a decade. (He last performed here at the Molson Centre on Oct. 27, 2000.)
Snagging a star of Eminem's magnitude is another feather in the cap of promoter Evenko and Nick Farkas, its director of talent buying and the event's founder, who have seen Osheaga's stature grow over the years to one of the most prominent music festivals in North America. The outdoor festival, which has until now been a Saturday-and-Sunday affair, is even expanding to Friday this summer to accommodate its sprawling lineup. (Three-day passes for the July 29-31 event are on sale now, while two-day and single-day passes will go on sale April 21, two days after the details of the day-by-day lineup is announced.)
