Did Eminem spend too much of his career reacting?

He'll be the first one to tell you that he wants real respect in the hip hop community...that's why he cares what people say and think, he's always cared, and now he can finally admit it and people don't like it. He enjoys being on top right now, it's never been about selling out or money or anything, I think Em just wants people to like his music. BME EP proves he's not a fucking sell out.

I think it's more about what fans think then the general impression.But Miller is right

He makes his best music when he's reacting to something specific. I just wish he would start doing it again.

I guess that's what makes him go into that punchline style he's been on lately,he doesn't have much to react to.But damn there are so many subjects he could touch ,yet he doesn't...

His first album and Relapse are really the only albums where he isn't talking about his music and its effects all the time. He was making songs about being bullied and being poor/depressed etc.

Then in the MMLP, he reacted to what people said about SSLP. Then on TES, he was reacting to what people said about MMLP and on Recovery, he was reacting to what people said about Relapse and reacting to what people say about his music (25 to Life). On Encore, he was reacting to prescription pills.

My point is I think he's always cared a little too much about how people perceive him and his music. I hope he comes out with some songs that look outside his own bubble on the next album.

Probably because he is someone anguished who is afraid not to be rather good and not liked enough, even if he says sometimes the opposite in his songs. The celebrity is heavy to carry, but not to be the best is difficult to accept for him because he always has an inferiority complex.

I think that when he will find a balance between both, he will especially feel better in his private life and maybe then in his future albums....

I don't really see him spending too much time reacting to others cause when he was.. I believe he was at his best. The MMLP definitely. Which happens to be my favorite album of all time. So whatever it took for all that to happen, it'd be hard for me to fault. If that makes any sense.

His best songs come from his reactions. C'mon go listen to the way i am, criminal, SFTM etc. and then come back and tell me he shouldn't react as much .

That's sort of why I hope he goes out and starts shit again even though he said he wasn't gonna beef anymore because otherwise he wont have shit to rap about in his next album. He's already exhausted drugs and his being "back" on recovery there is not enough going on in his life to make an entire album of unique songs right now.
