Eminem has decided to file a lawsuit against car company Audi AG, claiming they illegally used the rapper’s British No.1 track Lose Yourself in a recent advertising campaign.
The 38-year-old’s Eight Mile Style company filed the lawsuit at Hamburg’s Regional Court in Germany, stating that the carmaker is making use of the track in their latest commercial to promote next year’s Audi A6 Avant.
It is perhaps ironic that the same song was used to advertise the latest Chrysler 200 model during Super Bowl XLV back in February, when the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in American football’s biggest game.
Audi may also be in trouble for replicating the entire advert, with the lawsuit claiming an unspecified amount for damages.
Joel Martin, Eminem’s lawyer, said that they “believe Audi not only used Lose Yourself to sell their product without permission”, but that the “spot actually feels inspired by elements of Chrysler’s commercial campaign”.
Eminem’s representatives are also trying to find out which European advertising agency fashioned the commercial that had its debut last week during a press conference in Berlin.
