^ Lmao, what's that from. That weird beaver stare... I remember it distinctly, immediately, but can't remember from where. Was it just an Internet phenom on YT or something?

It had to be an homage to Fight Club (Gawd I love that movie.) I thought of it as soon as I saw it :worship: :worship:

No problem.

Just in case you ain't seen The Matrix either: "there is no spoon" ;)

Oh, and do make sure to mail me a list of every single film that you haven't seen yet, continuously (as more are released), to make sure I don't ever mention anything from a film which could reveal a plot surprise to you again.

OR, you could immediately see the description was about to go into a scene and stop reading :) but that would require more brain cells. And, they don't come cheap. But, I can do you a deal, along with some 'magic beans'. Take the 'beans' first and uh, the brain cells come as a result of that. The 'beans' may look like LSD tabs but uh, I assure you, they're not...

EminemBase wrote:Oh, yeah that ruins it (thought you meant it was like badly shot or just didn't fit). Completely. And once again, it's so annoying as Em has SLIGHTLY tarnished an almost perfect piece.

He did it with Relapse with a few songs, Recovery with the production, the EP with one song and now this video with that. So irritating because he gets it literally almost perfect but then he just splats a bit of doo doo on it.

And I'm not talking about arbitrary perfection, as, you can always improve but I mean... mistakes rather. Yeah, they're more-so mistakes than imperfections.

Even though this is still a great video for me though, that part will forever ruin it for me lmao. I don't understand how they can't see it either, or why they didn't go "hangon... he said temple guys" or why Em himself didn't go "hey, I say temple by the way"... I mean, it's hardly subtle, it's the climax of the song and the part it's building to. It's so crucial. Grrrr.

But Em puts his 'gun hand' to his temple when he raps it... which suggests to me they are or Em is aware of it and there was a reason the gun was under his chin. Maybe some kind of special-effects reason like it was easier to achieve or to have him fall backwards maybe. As if he shot himself in the side of the temple he'd collapse one way probably.

<< If that was the reason or, some kind of reason like that, no way if I was Em would I allow that. That would forever annoy me. As, there's no second chance in this, you make the video once and it's done and... he's an iconic artist so everything he does gets magnified and studied and remembered. So I couldn't bare there being such a blatantly visual blunder.

Agreed. He used to be so consistent with everything in his work. Now, there's always one or two things holding it back from perfection. I can't even blame this on the video producers, because even if Em doesn't play a large part in making the video, he has to realize how off this scene feels.

On a related (or maybe unrelated) note about little imperfections, I was listening to Medicine Ball yesterday and in the following line -
Hannibal Lector into guy sex and I bet ya I tantalize ya in the less than five seconds I get ya

the way he says "tantalize ya" is so fucked up, it's like he slurred over the word accidently. is it just me or what?

I think it's the peak of the video, it's what it's leading to. Looks great to me.

The way he shoots himself in the chin instead of the temple. The synchronization between the video and song is perfect until this part, then, like you said, it ruins it. It would have been the perfect ending to it, but to me it just seems like an amateur mistake to not have the gun to his temple.

When I hear that line, I get such a vivid image of a gun to Eminem's temple so I was looking forward to seeing how the video would portray it. But seeing the gun to his chin throws the whole line/ending off for me.

I don't think you can call this a "blunder" or "mistake" - the video is not in any way an attempt to make a line-by-line visualization of the lyrics. Why would this particular line be an exception? Or, more importantly, why does it ruin the whole video for you? Does it bother you that in the song Em says he gets on his knees and begs her not to leave, but that doesn't take place in the video? If the standard here is that the song says he shoots himself in the temple but in the video he shoots himself in the chin, then the whole video sucks.

If we're going line-by-line interpretation, then maybe Joseph Kahn was thinking of that Heart song from the 80s - "It was a rainy night/when he came into sight/standing by the road/no umbrella, no coat/ so I pulled up along side/ and I offered him a ride/ he accepted with a smile/so we drove for a while/I didn't ask him his name/this lonely boy, in the rain...

I think the video concept is pretty far away from the song concept anyway. I thought of Fight Club for the gunshot scene as well - I also thought of this old hitch hiker movie when i saw the opening scene, and after watching it a few times and trying to figure out what they are saying to each other when they get in the car, I don't think they actually know each other. It doesn't seem like this is his girlfriend and they are in the middle of a fight that would send him out walking in the rain. The "second" Em also takes a second and looks around before getting in. But again, that could just be a reference to some other film, or the way so many slasher films start out. Both Joseph Kahn and Em are fans of horror films.

There's also the possibilty that he kills her for his own safety - I mean, she smokes with the windows rolled up and has Sun Chips in the glove compartment, so obviously she is trying to kill Em with secondhand smoke and carbs. And we know how Em feels about the carbs.

have they even released a censored version? if they did, it wont really make sense to people who dont know that there is a gun, as his head would just fly backwards, then he would jump out the diner window
i cant find one on youtube, or any other website like it.

I love you.

And I agree on the rest of your post, too, the video really doesn't follow the song.

I noticed that Em put the imaginary gun to his temple, but not the real gun. So they obviously did it on purpose, and not just because they forgot that he said "put that gun to my temple"...

Like he was trying to make up for the fact that the actual gunshot is through his chin? Sort of a nod to the fans, like he knew we'd all flip about it. Makes sense, and gives more credibility to the idea that they didn't do it on the actual shot because it was either a FC tribute or the effects would have been too difficult.
