Why I Think SSLP/MMLP Are Better Than TES

Postby MikeNUFC » Jul 20th, '11, 23:19

TES is an amazing album, without doubt. It's a classic. However, the one thing it's lacking compared to his first two, which I think means it's not quite as good, is his subtlety. It's more 'obvious' in terms of ideas. The songs seem to have more obvious templates for song ideas.

Not to say it doesn't have any, but as a whole, I think it lacks that. It's not a criticism as such, just something I was thinking about. SSLP had incredible social commentary/satire but done in such a subtle, clever way that a lot of people haven't/never will pick up on it. People call My Name Is a celeb bashing song for example! MMLP was an exceptional use of irony/sarcasm and of course more social commentary/satire; some of which was obvious, but still executed in an incredibly clever way.

On these albums he used such original song ideas/templates/concepts to insert the satire in that it makes all that so much more interesting, IMO.

TES still has an incredible amount going for it, with some of his best songs, and is still one of my favourite albums ever. I just wanted to put this out somewhere,

It's so hard for me to compare SSLP/MMLP with TES but I do like TES better personally.

It's like, SSLP/MMLP was Eminem at his grittiest and hungriest, trying his hardest and most innovative, where TES was Eminem in his prime, on top of his game, after he had mastered the art of making songs.

That's why I think TES is better, honestly. It wouldn't have been any better if it was satirical or ironic or sarcastic or with the inclusion of social commentary (even though it had it's fair share of it in White America and Square Dance). It's just him pouring his heart out and putting his life on the forefront without coming up with genius ideas/concepts like Stan, Kim, My Fault or '97 Bonnie & Clyde. It's all raw emotion.

To each his own, of course. But, I prefer TES how it is. IMO it's the best album of all time.

TES didnt feel as natural as SSLP/MMLP to me/not taking anything away from TES,its still a classic, incredible album.

i consider SSLP is the best album of all time, followed by MMLP.

the emotion in MMLP and SSLP is more eviden than in TES too, although TES had an amazing share of emotion.

i have nothing bad to say about all 3 albums
The devil ain't on a level same as him!

I'm happy to see others sharing my opinion of TES being the best album of all time across all genres.

in my opinion, it sound like there is a way bigger difference than 2 years between MMLP and TES. is that just me?

I think his tounge in cheek rhyming is far superior to his straight on lyrics. Displayed perfectly in "Bitch Please II" and that's been my favorite verse on the CD since it came out.

But The Eminem Show is real, it's like his personal diary and his actual thoughts without being facetious. You can empathize with a lot of what he's saying and he fleshes himself out as an actual human.

Plus the production/beats selection is out of this world.

I can definitely see where your coming from and think the same way on a lot of it.

I prefer SSLP and MMLP over TES. But, I can't deny that they are all legendary. But, the SSLP and MMLP were Eminem in his young ass crazy days. When he was hungry and he really didn't give a fuck.

TES just doesn't have a raw sound to it like SSLP and MMLP. But, all three are easily rap classics.
