Em is an sarcastic, subtle introvert in an environment of brash, obvious extroverts, so ANYTHING out of the norm or jokey or any kind of odd humour... it's like they don't compute.

He was just being silly. Fucking lighten up.

Britain has a much broader and more accepted silly sense of humour, always has, and that's why he was totally understood on The Jonathan Ross Show. He says some things on there which people instantly get are sarcasm; then he says the same things on like Jimmy Kimmel and people sit stone-faced lmao.

I hate to stereotype of paint a whole 'people' as something, but every time I see something like this or the American public interpret Em or something in this way... it's very hard not to just see the main swell of America as extremely fucking dumb.

You are right in that most of the general public Americans fail to see sarcasm even when it slaps them in the face, such as what has happened in the interview. As an American, I see it on a daily basis, especially living in the southeastern part of the country. I knew what Em was doing the moment that he came on the screen. It's just bizarre that people could watch him, knowing the genious shit that he's written, and think that's he's being awkward and not realizing it. Come on, people, seriously? He knows what he's doing.
