Rapper joins Sugerland, Brooks & Dunn, Jonas Brothers donating signatures for auction
Macomb County's rap sensation Eminem is not only one of the top selling artists of the year, he was also first when it came to raising money at a local fundraiser to fight breast cancer.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center and Bianchi's Salon & Spa in Clinton Township recently hosted a fundraiser called "BRAvo Night" and raised more than $20,000 for the hospital's Ted B. Wahby Cancer Center.
More than 300 people attended the event, which featured a live auction for celebrity-autographed bras and a silent auction for bras entered in a decorating competition.
The top selling bra, which was autographed by Eminem, went for $1,700.
Other top sellers included: Sugarland for $600; Brooks & Dunn, $525; Jonas Brothers, $525; and Uncle Kracker, $325.
The silent auction for decorated bras brought in another $1,000. More than 5,000 online votes and 2,500 votes at the Parisian department store in Clinton Township were cast for the 57 decorated bras entered in the competition.
Many of the entries were made in honor of a family member, friend or co-worker diagnosed with breast cancer.
The top three decorated bras in the online competition were: First place, "Don't Gamble with the Girls," from the Ultrasound Department at Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center; second place, "Prevent It-Treat It-Beat It," from Alana Keigher and Briana Simon; and third place, "Secret Garden," from Alada Beads.
"This was such a great event that brought together members of the community for a wonderful cause to support breast cancer awareness," said Terri LeClair, director of the Mount Clemens Regional Healthcare Foundation. "We are very grateful to everyone who participated, including our generous sponsors. A special thanks goes to Bianchi's Salon & Spa for co-hosting the event and J. Baldwin's Restaurant for providing the food."
Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center is a 288-bed acute care hospital. More than 420 physicians and 2,000 employees work at MCRMC, making it one of Macomb County's top employers.
