Eminem transitioning from verses to hooks

Postby 1TS OK4Y » Jun 8th, '11, 23:23

Not really a complaint, but more of an odd observation. He's always done this.. he will end the verse with the beginning of the hook..but it will never match up correctly? Like in "I'm Back"..

And that's where I get my name from, that's why they call me

then the verse goes *that's why they call me slim shady"

And a more reason observation (however he does done this SEVERAL times during his career - i'm sure some of you have noticed)

Going through changes:

I don't know what else to say, I guess I'm..

then the chorus kicks in saying "I'm going through changes" ...so there are two "I'm"'s

and I do realize that line ending with I'm rhymed with the previous one. That's cool. But a lot of them don't need it to finish off a rhyme...

Just an odd thing I've noticed. Like I said there are others, but I"m in a hurry. I'll try to think of some later

I actually noticed this a lot when there's non-Em hooks. Another thing, Take From Me should've ended at the end of Em's verse imo. It would've made the "Slaughterhouse I give you" much better, and it just sounds weird with the chorus coming in after him shouting it.

Noticed this many times. It seems unprofessional.

Noticed it a lot before, it's nothing really new.

Right, he does this a lot. On LTWYL he goes with Rihanna before the last hook ("Just gonna"). Same thing In Not Afraid.

I've noticed he does it a lot. If he just slightly changed the way he did, it would come out a lot better and not poorly executed.

I personally like when he makes mistakes like these. Little imperfections like these are what give his music a certain appeal to me. To me, it makes me feel like the music was created for the sake of artistic expression, and since it's art it doesn't have to be perfect, as long as it gets the point across. Over the years I've noticed many mistakes in his music and I love it.

Off the top of my head I can name a mistake I found from "Say What You Say", he says "Mr. Buttersworth" instead of "Mr. Butterworth's." The "s" is in the wrong place, lol.

In "Music Box" he says "I'm fixated on asphyxiating..." but he doesn't pronounce the "s" so it sounds more like "uh-phyxiating" lol.

In JDGAF he says "DeShaun Holeman" instead of "Holton."

I don't know if any of these were done intentionally, but these are just some random things I've noticed over the years, and I'm sure many others have too. Or maybe I'm just weird... I dunno.

Don't get it, why you call it "mistakes"? Going with the hook isn't a mistake, it sounds great in practically all cases.

Oh, I said it that way because I thought the original OP was suggesting they were mistakes because Em was going with the hook too early or something. Personally I don't have a problem with any of the ones mentioned, I like them.

I never said they were mistakes. He knows he's doing them. I just think it would sound better without doing it.
