TRshady - The Eminem Project, your ideas!

Postby TRshady » Jul 15th, '11, 18:44

For me at least, and this has become more the case over time, it's all about the music.
TRshady.com is moving towards focussing on music and the goal is to make it THE Eminem site you'd visit to explore his discography, get lyrics, media, make comments on, see producer information and so on. But I'm wanting a little more than that and here I'm calling on you...

What could the site offer that would aid in allow others to browse the hundreds of tracks that have Eminem has appeared on? From a technological perspective, what functionality could I provide? From a fan perspective, what information would you like to know about his music? What information would you like to have to hand?

Importantly, what information resources do you use most? What websites do things well? Whether it's a site about cars or fashion, what sites do you love for how they work and what they provide?

Consider this a public brainstorm session, I want TRshady.com to be a useful, complete and up to date site that will be visited years after Eminem steps away from the mic for a final time. The site is currently a long way away from that, but here's an attempt to correct it all, gradually but consistently.

So what's your thoughts?

I'd open a new sub-forum called "Shady Legacy" or something like that. Inside it, there are locked threads with the topics that you mention: tracks Em has appeared on, his production list, features, history, etc. That would make things very organized and it would be extremely easy to navigate.

Are you still planning to change the look of the site you mentioned a couple weeks ago?

I think that a TRShady playlist would really be cool. It could be all Eminem or a mixture or whatever, just new music that gets updated once a week or so. Something sort of like Streampad is what I'm thinking.

well first clear the clutter. Get rid of the G-Unit, Aftermath, and D12 Sections. Get rid of Shady Media and put the only thread people care about from it (Twitter Mentioning Em) in the Main Section. Get rid of the Gaming Section or put it as a sub section of the Afterparty. And last but not least... Make me a Vet

~Make the discography downloadable (With paid links to the albums, Free links to the leaked tracks ofc.)

~Have a full all time running playlist you can turn off on the side with all featured tracks, give them some light that way,

~Have a youtube playlist for each solo album.

All I can think off, add more later.

I'd also streamline the site a little bit more. There are too many independent forums that could be part of a big "off-topic" sub-forum.

A playlist has been suggested many times but it's always shot down due to the fear of it slowing down the forum. Besides, we all of iTunes. :sweating:

I think the Homepage needs an overhaul..... it needs new images, graphics and layouts. I think the fact that we have a big forum community here should be highlighted too..... on the current homepage you can barely see "Eminem forum".

We need to change the home page.

Maybe for the home page we could change the layout. Instead of that cluttered looking side bar, we could have important tabs at the top of the screen, in the same colour scheme as our forum. Make it cohesive.

For example the tabs could say "Home" "Lyrics" "Music Videos" "News" and of course "Forum". Then whatever else you feel important enough to display at the top of the home page.

The home page itself could have the same graphic as the banner that we have for the forum, but in a bigger, more wallpaper-like fashion. Then when you click on each tab, the background would remain the same unless you clicked on Forum. Say you clicked on "Lyrics" you could scroll down the page searching for the song you want lyrics for organized by albums, collabs, and "other", which would be songs that have no place in the first two categories.

Just an example. Agree / disagree?

Agree.

//and the forum needs to be more prominent it's hardly even noticeable on the home page :(

You've completely hit the nail on the head, and it's exactly in line with what I'm thinking. The left hand menu is going, and instead they'll be a vertical navigation at the top, which will reflect the new focus, so far we'll have:

Latest News | The Music | The Artist | Forum

The middle two menu items will have present an expanded list on drop down of each section, so most of what currently appears on the left hand menu will now go under 'The Artist'.

I'm also giving thought to how I could enable visitors to help keep content up to date, I'm thinking each page could have a link that reveals a little form allowing the user to fill in the blanks if wanted. Could also perhaps have volunteers who can login and update song information.

Keep the ideas coming!
