Going Through Changes is Em's best song post-comeback

Postby Blu » Jan 8th, '13, 05:35

After thoroughly listening to the song millions of times, I think it's finally safe to say this haunting masterpiece is Eminem's best song post-comeback.

I used to hold "Deja Vu" in the number one spot, but man...the mood Em sets in "Going Through Changes" is just really gloomy. By the time he reaches the fourth verse my eyes are watering with tears hoping everything will be OK for him. Ozzy's vocals during the chorus also add to that saddening effect.

It's like GTC is the perfect emotional Eminem song.

I think Deja Vu is better, but GTC is a great song.

GTC is definitely one of my favorite post-comeback Eminem songs.

I wish it were produced in a style more similar to "Deja Vu", but other than that, I can't really say anything negative about this song.

Do you think if it was produced similarly to Deja Vu that Em would be able to keep up the serious tone?

He has a hint of humor in his voice when he's rapping the lyrics to Deja Vu but in GTC he seems completely serious.

You guys eat up personal em songs. It's an OK song.

I like most of Relapse/refill better than this.

I like 25 to life, almost famous and seduction better than this.

Em should never say dilly dally. wtf.

I lock myself in the bedroom, bathroom, nappin' at noon,
Yeah dad's in a bad mood, he's always snappin' at you.

that part flowed nicely...

Wouldn't that basically be another Deja Vu?

I think he could have had a more serious tone on "Deja Vu" if he had wanted to. It didn't seem like he was quite ready to take it there yet though, on that particular song. I don't think it was the beat itself, because it's a pretty dark beat. That's the only thing about "Deja Vu" that didn't strike me just right, the very subtle-almost-not-even-there touch of a smile he has when he's rapping it.

Nope. It would be "Going Through Changes" with a beat that's cleaner, and not sampled. It wouldn't have the "Deja Vu" beat, it would just have been produced in a similar manner. It could be the same tempo as GTC, with the same Kick-Snare drum pattern, and of course (mostly) the same lyrics, but a different beat.

I like the song as is though, I'm not complaining about the beat. The sample suits it perfectly, and adds to the feeling of the song. If I had one thing I could change about the song, that would be it, and it isn't even something I dislike.

Going Through Changes destroys the shit out of Deja Vu.
I don't want you to be-lieve,
Cause this is something that I must use, to suc-ceed,
And if you don't like me then fuck-you,
Self-e-steem, must be fuckin' shootin' through the roof,
cause trust me,
My skin is too thick and bulletproof to touch me
I can see why the fuck I dis-gust you,
I must be allergic to failure, cause every time I come close to it,
I just sneeze but I just go a-choo, then a-CHIEVE

Cleaner?

Sorry, I'm not sure of what you're describing here. Like, the guitar in Deja Vu doesn't really sound 'clean' to me (if I had to use that word to describe a sound).

EDIT: Sorry about the quoting.

I'm not sure how to describe it, but the frequencies in GTC sound a little murkier to me. The guitar sample isn't unnecessarily distorted, but the tone is dirtier to me, for whatever reason. I don't know, the "Deja Vu" beat just seems clearer and cleaner to me.

For me the production of GTC is one of the things which make this song.

And i agree, it's definitely the best song since his comeback.

Easily the most overrated song post Eminem's comeback. I'll pick CWYWF, On Fire, 3am, Deja Vu....hell, even Underground any day over GTC. Seriously. Bores the fuck out of me after that third verse and I just want it to end. The production is mostly meh too. And i've never heard such an uncreative hook in my life.

Definitely a GREAT song. Really gets me every time I hear it.

It compares to Deja Vu in content, but IMO they're both two different songs. He had a specific goal in mind with Deja Vu, and that was explaining his struggles with drugs and losing a friend and how it affects HIM. Whereas in GTC, he's talking about situation and how it affects not only him, but the people around him.

Both are amazing songs.
