Meaningful Eminem vs "Despicable" Eminem

Postby FreeSpeech » Jul 31st, '10, 22:33

Anyone else prefer the Eminem who used fairly easy rhymes like in Lose Yourself to say incredible things over the Eminem who goes insane on Despicable and WBD and just talks about how he's the shit?

Meaningful Eminem by far
They claim that I'm violent, just cause I refuse to be silent
These hypocrites are havin fits, cause I'm not buyin it
Defyin it, envious because I will rebel against
any oppressor, and this is known as self defense
I show no mercy, they claim that I'm the lunatic
But when the shit gets thick, I'm the one you go and get
Don't look confused, the truth is so plain to see
Cause I'm the nigga that you sell-outs are ashamed to be

Did you say he used fairly easy rhymes in Lose Yourself :facepalm

His rhymes on Lose Yourself are 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000x better then anything on Recovery.

He never used 'fairly easy rhymes'.

He's always been an inherintly complex lyricist, at least in structure, regardless of his form.

As for him not being meaningful now; He does now as he's always done, he says some meaningful things and some despicable things. The difference is, as he's evolved he's made the distinction less clear and more coated in themes.

Which is a good thing, it's a step forward. Like he said in his book, he's found a way to blend and juggle his persona's into a simultaneous mix. Which is a lot more admirable, artistically, than making clear sharp distinctions (which is why Encore came off so badly). Or, at least more skilful.

But, it's also what I feel has caused the increasing misunderstanding as he moves onwards. Especially with critics. Not being able to spot his intended humour because the presentation is so apparently cold and the execution so obsessively refined. Forcing the listener to listen on more levels. He mixes themes and moods constantly. If you can keep-up, it's tremendous fun. As Relapse was, immense. But most appear to be getting lost in the mix now.

No my point wasn't that he has never used fairly easy rhymes.

My point was that, he's always used complex rhymes. I meant he didn't go from using easy rhymes to complex rhymes. He's always used complex rhymes.
