Tough call tbh, especially since you can include the refill and leaked songs from relapse, when recovery has session one and ridaz.

I recently listened to relapse straight thro and realized (even tho i always liked the album) how sick it really was lyrically, it has great entertainment value, and does seem like a concept album that works.

Recovery is sort of all over the place, but had so many dope songs and moments that it worked, and worked well. I honestly can't pick one as being better because they are so different, but I think based on total number of songs I might lean towards relapse if you include refill, since a lot of refill songs I fuckin love.

Recovery is very similar to the The Eminem Show.

Recovery won last time, the Relapse appreciation has grown a lot.

Relapse is a great album, loved it when it came out and still love it to this day. Recovery though, I loved it when it first came out but it has fucking grown on me heaps, where as Relapse just kinda sat there. I listened to Recovery front to back the other day and holy shit, the songs are sick :worship:

Relapse. Just because the anticipation surrounding that album was ridiculous. Shit, I wish once his next cd's release date is announced, I'll feel that excitement Relapse gave me. Recovery I didn't feel that...I guess cuz they came out so closely together compared to the usual 2 year waits between albums.

I don't think anticipation had anything to do with it. people act like ten years pased between Encore and Relapse. A lot of artists take a long time between releasing. We just got spoiled by how close SSLP, MMLP and Eminem SHow came to each other. Em being on drugs and all of that cost us one album, that's it. It wasn't that big of a deal. he's made a lot of material. More than most people.

So wait does refill count for this vs thread? I was including it when i thought about it. If its relapse refill then it blows recovery away. If its normal relapse its almost tie.

Relapse was Eminem getting back to being himself. He was closing in on recapturing Eminem Show/8 Mile Eminem as he went along. His multi computer was spitting out multis at a rate he could barely write down in time, he was going all in on crafting the longest strings he could rather than going, "all right, that's good enough," and his voice had recovered enough that he really sounded like he was just getting over a 5 year flu when he wasn't doing the accent.

The Eminem we've been seeing since he scrapped Relapse 2...that's not him anymore. He just completely veered and now he's drifting off into space.

Agreed.

The thing is, I think he can veer back to not being shitty. All artists "drift off into space" at some point. The longer a artist is around, the more chance they have at sucking. But EM isn't most artists. If this album isn't good, none will ever be. But I think he can make a good album. I don't think he has anymore great albums, but I think he has at least one more quality album in him. I kind of hope he retires after this one. I never want him to leave, but, I watched my favorite athletes stay around too long striking out. I want Em to go out batting .300, not stick around hitting .158.

Great point, great analogy. I still want 2 more albums tho...

Yea im not sure how to explain it but when relapse came out i was with majority of people who thought it was pretty bad and let down and he could do better. Not sure why but as time went on i liked relapse more and more and recovery was other way around i loved it calling one of his best but honestly its dropped alot in terms of my fav's. Could be this forum and opinions that changed me but i still feels like recovery has aged badly prob one of his worst in terms of how long it lasts.
