I wonder if the percentage would be so high if the question was CURRENT top 5 rappers?

My CURRENT, in alphabetical order would be...

- Eminem
- Hopsin
- Kanye West
- Tyler the Creator
- Yelawolf

And, there'd be a different justification for each really. As, with Em... he'd be in my current top 5 too but, that's not due to his punchlines etc. obviously but, just song quality and flows. And, creatively even... even though he's not keeping it CONSTANT...

You have to look at some of the things he's put out since he's come back and for me, Relapse bar the two dud tracks is, hypnotic and then you have some things on Recovery like "Cinderella Man" and "Almost Famous" that are out of this world.

So even though he may not be a pure top 5 current, in terms of certain lyricism, in terms of songwriting and what he's capable of at his best still, I think he's leagues in front of most. I mean who the fuck else is coming up with things on the caliber of "Almost Famous".

Then with Hopsin, he's up there for me as an all-round MC. Raw is top to bottom awesome to me, every track is either great or classic, he's also a great producer and, he's very consistent lyrically. And, some nice little song concepts etc.

Really looking forward to what he does next.

Then with Kanye it'd be more what he's doing creatively and, I know that type of quality is more so what you'd define as a top 5 artist, not MC maybe but... he is still an MC and doing these things partially because of that, and involving rapping. And, he's really pushing boundaries and refusing to stay stagnant or settle for second best, I can feel his seething passion, so he's up there.

With Tyler - I actually think he's one of the most currently overrated in terms of an MC but I can see what he and OddFuture are trying to do, in the sense of, their 'movement' and, their energy yada yada. But for the most part, his debut was pretty much just a muddled mess. Which isn't to say it was bad, I liked it but, it's more like a bag of ideas than a coherent album and, a lot of his ideas can be aimless and just... it's just expression at its most basic level sometimes.

But again, purely because of his determination to be different and compelling, or at least having that ambition and the kind of stylistic and vibe he's trying to infuse through the mic - he's up there.

Then with Yela... he's probably my favourite right now. His mixtapes are classic and he's an extremely good songwriter already. He can do it all. And, he writes these songs that feel like instant, anthemic hip-hop tracks, which is what he's aiming for as he says he wants to create 'stadium rap'. He's absolutely achieving that element with his writing to me, he's very visual... I can see his rhymes; there's character, there's a whole artist and personality on the mic there.

And, he's already very versatile with flow and styles, and ideas. Most people don't know what he's capable of as they've just heard a verse here or there but I think he's going to surprise a lot of people and he's, maybe the best signing Em has made thus far in my opinion.

It goes:

1. D12
2. 50 Cent
3. 2Pac
4. Proof (RIP)
5. Dr. Dre

Honorable mentions: Yelawolf & Obie Trice.

Eminem would be my number #10 pick.

This is what I'm saying about people who are paranoid and go out of there way to not look like 'Stans' lmao. Because... to have D12 and Dr. Dre in your top 5 rappers of all-time list...

And not Em?

Come on man, you're trying a bit hard there. You trying to say everybody in D12 is a better lyricist than Eminem or that they make more compelling music without him... ?

And as for Dr. Dre, Eminem writes his fucking lyrics when he raps with him. He's not a rapper. He's a producer. And as for 50... come on. Seriously, you think 50 Cent is a better lyricist, and rapper (flow, ideas, concepts, everything) than Eminem?

Anyway, mine would be...

1. Eminem
2. Mos Def
3. Nas
4. Redman
5. Xzibit

I voted yes. He'd be my number 1. To me, what he's done and accomplished in his prime will never be topped. Kinda strange how people don't even have him in their top 5 of all time list. Hopefully he's at least in people's top 10. But whatever tickles their pickle I suppose.

Alright, I'd like to expand on my top five. Eminem isn't in it, but he can make it I just haven't listened to his catalogue in it's entirety. Quite frankly a lot of his music bores me and I couldn't listen to a whole album without skipping some songs, though the songs of his that I do like, are probably some of my favorite rap songs off all time (Rock Bottom, 8 Mile Road (yeah I know it's not in any of his albums), Sing For The Moment, Drug Ballad, etc.)

Anyways my top five, isn't set in stone and fluctuates every few months, but if I had to make a current top five than it goes.

1)Nas
2)Ghostface
3)Gift of Gab
4)Dessa
5)POS

No, I'm not going to give reasons as to why I prefer their music over Eminem's, you could make a case for Eminem being technically superior to all of them, I don't give a shit, they make music at that I enjoy and Eminem bores me now, other than the occasional stand out track. I don't give a fuck about his collab with Royce btw.

This!

I can't listen to Eminem's music like I used to. I can't even listen to his old stuff anymore.

I think I have officially outgrown Eminem, and I don't think I'll be that "into it" ever again.

You probably overplayed his music, though I can understand where you're coming from if you feel like you've outgrown his music as well, some of his songs haven't aged well for me.
