Producers of a 50 Cent music video with Eminem called off a second night of filming in Detroit, the Free Press has learned.
Shooting was to have resumed Monday night on the project, which began Sunday in Corktown. But plans were postponed Monday evening when police support could not be properly arranged in time, said a spokesman for Detroit Mayor Dave Bing. He said Detroit filming was being rescheduled.
“In any production shoot, scheduling is tied to the availability of police — whose costs are borne by the production company," spokesman Anthony Neely said in a statement.
A sequence was filmed Monday night at Canton-Plymouth-Mettetal Airport in Canton Township, said people involved in the production.
Sunday's shoot in Detroit had included scenes at the Michigan Central train station and along Michigan Avenue near Trumbull, featuring a low-flying helicopter in an apparent street-chase sequence. Shooting ran through sunrise.
A source involved in the video production said the shoot had been plagued by paperwork problems, including a failure to secure proper permits with the City of Detroit.
"It wasn't the fault of (Eminem) or 50 Cent or their crew,” but rather a third party hired to handle red tape with the City of Detroit, said the source, who asked not to be named because of his work with the video.
The delay has "cost a whole lot of money," the source said.
The video will accompany the new song "My Life" from 50 Cent's upcoming album "Street King Immortal,” according to Twitter posts from 50 Cent and Interscope Records personnel.
It's the second video production in recent days for Eminem: Last week he was in Milford for filming of a new collaboration with Skylar Grey, who was cowriter and vocalist on the Eminem-Rihanna hit "Love the Way You Lie."

While it may not have had the excitement of the helicopter in Corktown, the film crew for the Eminem and Fifty Cent music video was also spotted in Brush Park yesterday. Here are shots from Alfred Street. It seems the video shoot had no loyalty to the brand that Eminem famously stumped for in the Imported to Detroit Super Bowl car commercials (Chrysler). That's one tricked out Porsche. We sent the images to a crew member that had been involved in the Corktown segment that confirms this is a vehicle they'd been using on that site as well.
