And on the video, Eminem shifted from "crazy" to "I want respect" in 2002. I don't think drugs were the entire cause. His movie was coming out...and yeah, i think the downers had started to affect him so it was a combination.

He doesn't looked drugged up. Just because he's joking around doesn't mean he's on drugs.

To anyone who dislikes this thread, all I'm trying to do is pinpoint when exactly Eminem became an awful rapper. If you don't like that, go fuck yourself. :D

Eminem became an awful rapper? Well, sir, you're the one to go fuck yourself. You think he was a bad rapper on Encore?

Uh yeah, i do...Amadeo seems to agree.

Are you a fucking retard?

No, I'm not a retard no matter how hard that is to believe. ;)

You think Em was a bad rapper on Encore only or has he been "awful" since Encore?

Eminem was the GOAT rapper from 1997-2002. From 2003-2007 he was pretty much the worst rapper out there. From 2008 to now he's been the best rapper in the mainstream.

I wouldn't go as far as saying he was the worst rapper out there....No matter how awful Em's lyrics might have been during that time period...There was always some Southern rapper out there that was even worse.

Yall trippin.

Encore is some trippy shit to listen to when you're high....

Go smoke some weed and pop some E and listen to Encore. Stop being such a square.

You'll appreciate it more.

That's so fucking ridiculous.
An album shouldn't be bearable only when you're under the influence of weed.
Especially when it's Eminem.
Encore sucked. Compared to his previous work it was pure garbage. End of story.
I'm just sick of fans defending EVERYTHING Eminem does to death. Next you're gonna tell me to listen to Fack after I've popped some methadone and vicodin and I'm gonna appreciate it :facepalm

After 8 Mile, pretty much. He started doing drugs heavily after TES and I think he probably did them on the 8 Mile set. Then Encore came around

He said he became introduced to Ambien on the set of 8 mile, so I think you're right in saying it "started in 02." I don't think it was a sharp and sudden decline. Some of his 03 work (The Sauce, Nail in the Coffin, Bully) was respectable, though not quite as sharp as his prior work. You could see him gradually become deeper voiced and his lyrics become less fluent and impressive. By late 2003/2004 it had REALLY kicked in.

I doubt he'd been working on Encore in 02, though. You do have to wonder about a couple of the verses in "Encore," though...especially the section around "rockin' off the hinges/popular consensus...best cut last/fresh cut grass"...maybe he had an old verse lying around somewhere that he used for that part.
