If that's bad wordplay, I don't know what's good for you. That's easily a Despicable-level line.

Don't think it's about bad wordplay,as it's about him screaming those words out, which after a few listens can be annoying (for some ppl).Just like some hated the accent on Relapse even tho they liked his storytelling .

This pretty much sums it up. :y:

I hate listening to people like Tupac because they sound the same. Waaaay too layed back. Em is into his music and he lets it show. He has a super powerful voice, and a genius mind. And you're saying he needs to put all of that on the shelf to move forward? That is by very definition regressing.

Are you saying that today's Eminem is a better at rhyming than the SSLP Eminem or am I misinterpreting something?

he didnt need the yell to stay above any of the beats he got on before recovery
he used to be able to have intensity and emotion without just screaming the entire time
yeah u might consider some songs (till i collapse) to be yelling, but it didnt sound as forced back then

Amadeo, you clearly didn't read what I was responding to with my 2nd quote of yours. He's saying that his rhyming from 10 years ago is better than Relapse. Which is simple not true. He has no song with more multi's that Stay Wide Awake (and that's just for starters).

Did you actually COUNT the multis, or are you just talking out of your ass?

Regardless, quite a bit of Stay Wide Awake is forced...not to mention the content can go just about anywhere because he's not actually trying to tell a vivid story based on exaggerated reality, as he did in Brain Damage (which also makes some subtle points about the school system as well).

It's quality, not quantity. SSLP Eminem had multis all over the place and they were crisp and brilliant. Stay Wide Awake may have more syllables per multi, but it's not nearly as crisp or as detailed (I still notice new things in Eminem's old songs to this day..."Mr. Mathers/just for that stunt," for example.

I don't think he's gotten better or worse... just different. Though I hope he'll go back to the old story telling ways, I don't think he will, at least not as good as the SLLP tracks. I'll still listen to whatever he puts out though, since it's at least better than most mainstream rap nowadays.

Maybe you just started listening to him?

90% of people i know who like him all say he was best during 1999-2003

I loved the 8 mile sound track had really great story telling but encore was the falling point of him.

he needs to go back to being Eminem. he is trying too hard with Recovery to adapt to the styles of the game right now, but that is just not who he is. Eminem has always been known for going above and beyond and giving himself his own name. SSLP, MMLP, Eminem Show all do that, as well as his work on 8 Mile. He has to stop caring what people think and just make good music, unless he can't do that anymore. Recovery is good, but not Eminem good

I've been listening to Em since 1999.

And I'm done here. I've accepted the fact that nobody else thinks Em has made any improvement as a lyricist. The guy could cure cancer and people would find a way to bitch about it. :coffee:
