Why'd you say it's recorded in 09?

It's clearly from like 05 or 06. Sounds nothing like 2009?...

Anyway, um, not sure about it being on The Eminem Show. Maybe on Encore. It's one of those transition tracks, probably made for King Mathers, so probably late 2006 or 2007.

Drips is good, TES is the greatest album imo, but if Lady was in there and Drips was on cheers instead, damn :sweating:

Are we seriously considering taking off this brilliant verse for something like this?:

kansas city projects
i was like 5, 6, and how come
i remember malcolm, isaac, and boogie

cause those’re my best friends until isaac
took my tricycle and my uncle todd went to try to go get it back

which is still, to this day
why my mother still tries to show me some old fake picture
of a fictitious little sister who never existed
and this is why part of my life’s so twisted
but i can never be as sick as that bitch is
and, by the way, that picture’s one of my relatives

^Word ! I wouldn't replace Drips with The apple ever! I don't know why y'all praising this song so much,it's an ok song but not GREAT/AMAZING as some of you make it sound lol.Drips fits perfect where it is,so stop hating on the song smh :shakehead:
PS:Some of you are so disapointed in what Em released/or has been leaked after Recovery that u make all kind of wrong assumptions/compares etc.

The Apple IS poorly written. But it DOES have the Eminem-feel to it
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

Why is it poorly written?

I'm not saying whether I agree or not - I just think a lot of people jump on the bandwagon with that era and 'assume' everything was badly written when, when you actually examine it - some of the verses are better structured than some of his shit now lmao.

What do you notice about the lyricism that is done poorly?

I personally think the lyricism of The Apple was great, especially for a drugged out Eminem, but the rhymes themselves were EXTREMELY average...

I'm not jumping on the bandwagon.
Did HEAR the way he said '....and by the way that picture is one of my rela-tives.' Seemed kind of out place...rhyme wise at least. No multies that stand out (not implying that multies are everything) as well as simple rhymes like 'cut in the gut' and 'claim to BE a G...' or something like that. I'unno, it's not a horrendous song, it's just badly written.

I didn't say you were. I said 'a lot of people' do.

And, that didn't sound out of place to me. One thing he always gets... as far as I can hear, almost perfect and always has - is timing. His delivery and pacing, and the delivery of bars in time always sounds entirely dead-on rhythm wise to me.

Where as, even Nas or every other rapper I've ever heard always has at least the odd line out of place. Or, they try and rush and fit a word in thus making it... out of time.

But, he broke the word up there to make the rhythm work, sounds right to my ears.

As for the writing, you're really only focusing on the final verse there, which... is pretty irrelevant yeah and I hate it when he does that. He often partially ruins songs for me actually by doing that - mentioning irrelevant shit or issues which won't be timeless and will just sound corny down the line.

But, if you take the first verse for example...

Did I spit too soon? should I of spoon fed 'em it?
But I was just so eager to prove I was even worth
Being in the same league or the room with
Of the people of whom I was in
Every now and then I look up like I was seeking approval
Was it because of the pigment of my skin
Or was it a figment of my imagination

Now... I'm not gonna pretend to be the best mutli / rhyme highlighter on this site - other here do it much better than me. I just don't regularly do that - I do notice them and value them, and I value structure, a lot but, I don't regularly count or lay them out.

But, all those words highlighted there either rhyme, or half rhyme or sound alike due to his annunciation in some way... I mean, it seems like a fair amount of okay jotted rhyming to me.

And, obviously I'm not saying it's up there with his prime material. but I don't see how that is badly written. Not his best, sure. Bad for Eminem? Maybe. But I think people over-exaggerate how 'poorly' written this stuff is sometimes.

Again, when you compare that to say the structure of "Brain Damage" it's laughable. The Slim Shady multies and structure are so tight and consistent, it's like magic. But, again, I wouldn't say "The Apple" is BADLY written just because it's not up there with his masterwork... It's still good writing, in my opinion. Doesn't sound bad anyway. But, his delivery always elevates it.
