My Review

1- Welcome 2 Hell: 9/10 . Awesome, haunting production, sick rhythm scheme from Em with awesome lyrics, delivery and flow. Royce was good but easily out shined. Still helped to make this a brilliant album opener.

2- Fast Lane: 8/10. Good production and hook, Royce comes into his own easily beating Em with an intricate rapid flow. Em was smooth and flowed well though.

3- Reunion: 9.5/10. Almost a perfect track. Brilliant production, vintage Eminem verses and nostalgic hook. Royce does a great job too. Really feeling their chemistry at this point.

4- Above The Law: 9/10/. Production continues to excel on the EP. Brilliant hook and amazing, fierce, raw and magnetic verses from Eminem and Royce both. Brilliant cohesive rhythm schemes for both with memorable lyrics.

5- I'm On Erythang: 5/10. Meh. Nothing much to see here. Average production, poor lyrics and a pretty poor performance from Royce shaded by mediocre Em. Classic EP's/Albums cant have songs like this... Oh, importantly, it's not even funny- what it was probably meant to be.

6- A Kiss: 7/10. Fair production and laid back verses from both Em and Royce with good synergy/chemistry. Some really nice lines throughout the song, and it does what it was supposed to (unlike the previous track) which is to lighten up the album a bit without compromising its quality. Good song though all in all, but another one to detract from the EP overall.

7- Lighters: 8/10. Doesn't belong on the EP, but in the interests of fairness I'll rate it as an individual track. Feeling the production, you can hate me now. Great verse from Em, unfortunately easily outshining Royce (happening a bit too much now, not a good thing for an album of this nature). Great hook from Bruno Mars (the kid can sang). Overall, a great single easily better than any Recovery or Relapse single.

8- Take From Me: 6/10. Probably my biggest disappointment on this EP since everyone was saying how good it was. Just wasn't feeling the production, definitely wasn't feeling the concept and Em was rambling a bit without a cohesive, consistent flow in his verse. Very disappointing. The concept didnt register for me either I guess. Imo, Royce was good, the hook was fine and that's enough to salvage the song somewhat. Another dent in this EP's armour though, imo.

9- Loud Noices: 7/10. It's a good song, Slaughterhouse come to the party, especially Crooked with a standout verse. Productions fine. Em is outshone again, album ending weaker than it began.

Overall

7.6/10

Well, that's lower than I expected, looking at the album objectively, but to be fair, I've enjoyed the standout tracks as much as I've enjoyed any Eminem since I became a fan. These are genuine Eminem songs on this EP that will send a shiver down your spine and are probably a pleasure to get blunted to (I've been really tempted believe me). Royce performed admirably on certain tracks but wasn't consistent enough to match Em throughout the EP. My hype for future Eminem projects has increased as I realize he's still got some amazing potential and can knock it out of the park when he wants to. Lets hope he keeps the fillers to a minimum in future releases and who knows, he could drop another classic LP. :y:

i think some people are forgetting.. we've had living proof and echo forever, i think if we were just now hearing them for the first time, a lot of people would be saying that the EP has more gems and replay value. also a lot of people underrate fastlane, track goes hard. just dont forget those tracks we've had, even if you've outplayed them, we have to remember how enjoyable they really are.

the ep definitely deserves an 8 or 8.5 / 10. shits fire.

good luck jay/kanye, they'll never go this hard.

7/10 for me.

Lots of highlights and a few classic tracks. Don't agree with a lot saying that Royce stole the show though. I think there were parts where he was better, was back and forth. But for the most part I think Em was more entertaining and witty, with sharper flows / delivery.

Royce still can't match the excitement / energy and years of honed obsession in Em's delivery for me. Like Budden says, it's 'more than hip-hop'. In those formation years with Dre he put so much effort into stretching his voice and fucking around with styles and, it just takes his vocals to a new level.

"Welcome 2 Hell" as an example. Em's "Take From Me" verse also ethered Royce's.

This but the majority are judging it as if its an actual album, this is only an EP and will still beat anything Kanye/Jay-Z will ever put out.

9/10 for what it is, apart from the Lighters, everything else was fire, and i felt Eminem provided the better lyrics and really showed different flow styles in the album. Royce kept up will though, and i thought he was better on Living Proof.

Well, it is an album. An album is just a collection of material, that's put out as a single piece. But, they're classing it / calling it an EP. So it's an EP too.

As for the Jay / Ye comment... I'm not Jay's biggest fan but I am a big Kanye fan, and whilst Watch the Throne is obviously not gonna have flows or rhyming that touch the sides of Em / Royce or these songs - I do think Kanye is more artistic now and he'll tie in more themes and visuals - which are really what take an album to another level.

So, I think it could go either way. And, given the headspace Kanye's in right now with MBDTF, he's likely to make this hugely visual and epic. So I think the BME will feel 'small' and limited in comparison to it, for that reason.

Because, that's the problem with Em now, and, for a longtime - it's always just about him, his life and fame. So it feels restricted. If he looked outside of himself and rapped about the world around him or committed to full concepts, he could open up a whole new career and world of music with his talent.

I'm only entertaining you
My goal is to stimulate, making you high
And take you and I
To a place you can't see
But I believe you can fly
I don't mean nobody harm, I'm just partying
I'm not your dad, not your mom, not your guardian
Just a man who's on the mic
So let me entertain you...

How can you hate something you never even listened to? This guy isn't even an Eminem fan I don't think.
