well, em is the first rapper that I properly started listening to ... so logically I would have started to listen to another rapper & than other rappers in general , lol.

I probably wouldn't have gotten into Hip Hop, in all honesty.

Came back to annihilate, the game's in dire straights, as I await
Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake

I wouldn't be into rap as much, or at least not the same artists that I really enjoy now. I wouldn't have gotten into rap as quickly. I wouldn't be on this site. My taste in music would certainly be different because this site has helped me discover some new artists and listening to Eminem has opened me up to a lot of new music.

I was given the Slim Shady LP as a birthday gift on my 7th birthday, the year after my father left. So in a way I sort of subconsciously followed him as I would a father. His "I just don't give a fuck" way of portraying himself, and his way of shamelessly calling out fake ass people/music soaked into me like a sponge after a while. From 2nd grade to highschool I listened to Eminem before and during school, every single day of my life.

So I imagine I would be a completely different human being without his influence.

Without Em I'd just listen to actual songs in the charts, I wouldn't have a favourite artist. I wouldn't listen to full albums.

I would probably be a doctor or something.

TL;DR etc.

I was always a 3.7+ GPA student and in AG programs since 3rd grade. I was a Freshmen in High School when SSLP came out and we went used to go to a place called "The Wall" during lunch(a hidden place behind the school people could smoke cigarettes or whatever) We weren't supposed to be there and we felt like little badasses breaking the rules and going there.

I remember this shit so clearly, like it happened 10 minutes ago.

One random day at "The Wall" a buddy of mine, Scott, was going "HI! My name is....My name is" like someone would do if they had a song stuck in their head. Another guy, Camden, was standing there shooting the shit with us and chimed in "That song is....That song is....That song is...Chika Chika Chika Gay-ay"

I had never heard it and was like what are y'all talking about? They explained it and some random guy from another high school that was down there to see his GF on her lunch said "I have it in my car, you definitely need to come check this shit out!!"

We went down to his Nissan Sentra and listened to a few songs and that was supposed to be it and we would go back to class since our lunch hour was wrapping up. Anyways, Brent got a page (LOL1999communication) and said that it was his weed man, he just got good, and asked if I wanted to skip afternoon classes and ride with him.

Being your typical 15 year old highschooler, of course I did. Fuck school, I want to go smoke chronic!! I was a novice at the time and this would be my first venture into actually smoking in quantity.

We did, and over the course of the school year/that summer/and beginning of Sophmore year our trips became more frequent and I was missing a shit ton of school. When I did go to class, I was facing blunts at 7:30 a.m. before I went in and actually got some random black kid in trouble one day because I reeked of weed when our school's truant officer randomly popped in our class, smelled it, and jumped to conclusions.

The rest of the story will just make this post more drawn out than it already is. I never got into anything too bad (drugs/law breaking wise) and maintained everything except school.

But if Scott never started singing "My Name Is" I would have gone back to class and probably never even met Brent. Probably would have graduated with honors and gotten a mediocre scholarship to a state university.

I'm not complaining because I love where everything has put me in life, but yeah, I kinda have that "wasted potential" factor going on because of that song. Not because of it's lyrics/content, just because of the conversation it started.
