I always listen to Music Box when I want to eat taco.
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

OP Rage ITT!

Sla wrote:I've never felt the necessity to put some Em shit on just to help me out. Em's music is Entertainment for me, just deal with it.

Pretty much this.

I think OP is blurring the line between "relating to his music" and "using his music as therapy". I personally fall into the former but can get behind reasoning for someone in the latter.

I look at it like this, some bitch uses you and steals your money or some shit, you throw on 25 to life (Yes, I know its not about a woman but it can be used to relate to about breaking any habit, or attachment to a person, object, etc.)

and you relate. It helps you relax. Calm down. Now, if you listen to him for every single fucking problem....
But yknow. Whatever, its' personal preference, and it's not rage. Just attacking trolls and dimwits.

Em has made a career capturing emotion and venting and the storys he tells about anyone could relate to it. i remember when i used to be pissed id play some the way i am and when someone that day fucked with me and im thinkin about it i flip on i just dont give a fuck. i actually made a chill spot in my closet which is just big enough to have a chair in and a small stero and i bump the hell outta some marshall mathers or slim shady lp and drown out the emotions and pain of the day and just vibe. at the end of the day thats one reason why i love eminem. no other artist could do this.

Revolutionary wrote:Anyone who's an Eminem fan that's saying Em's music didn't get him through some shit in life is an idiot.
And i'm not just talking about emotional issues, i'm talking about everything (Courage to fight for example).

You're not in the position to be calling anyone an idiot when your views expressed on this thread are closed-minded as fuck. Some people will listen for the beats, flows, multies, subject-matter, fuck-of-it or a mixture of all those and much more. So because I don't need music therapy and "rap is much deeper than that", YOU revoke my right to listen to it?

And lol at people really not reading in context. Sla didn't mean no one literally had no problems, but not everyone has problems that require music to help them.

He introduced me to horrorcore & multis. Also i'm sure i've let out some anger to Kim, The Way I Am, Till I Collapse & Soldier before, which is rare since I mostly use rock music to peak my rage rather than rap.

I think that music influences us in one way or another, without us realizing it. There are therapies where music is used, it is perhaps even more visible in children. So why not imagine that a particular song or artist can act on the mind of someone.

lol @GenePeer, I was going to say that it would be stupid to think otherwise. :'(

It does get people (including me) through shit, but I totally understand how there are some people it may have never helped. In fact, there's no point in my life that was made so much easier to deal with thanks to music. It's calming and all but nothing I couldn't have survived without.

Er, Em's music as well as other music has helped at times, but it's not like it has "saved" me or some shit like that, it has never made a really big difference as far as I can tell. It has made things easier to handle, but nothing that other things can't do too. Plus, I don't really want to use music in that way.. I want it to be entertainment. I don't want to associate a song to "that moment in life that I want to forget" whenever I listen to it.

Even with your girlfriend on the beach, all both embracing, watching the sunset and listening to music far away and you exclaiming together: hey, you hear! it's our song!

Rap is much deeper than that!
If you want entertainment go pump some Gaga shit and get outta here.

Someone can enjoy and empathize with words in a song. That doesn't mean they seek guidance through life's troubles with them.

In the same way one line can change your cognition in approaching a certain aspect of life, to me it might just be a feeling that I recognize and can feel where he was coming from when he wrote it. There's a slight, but at the same time substantial difference.

People have different ways of coping with things. Gaga fans swear she helps them through shit, but would you put on "Poker Face" next time your gf cheats on you? Probably not, but somebody will.

The same way you see that as entertainment, people see it as therapy. In the same light, you see Em as an emotional release, others see it as entertainment and enjoyment.

I minored in Psych at school and this conversation fascinates me.

What about gangsta rap? I'm sure that doesn't inspire anyone (besides dumb fucks that like to shoot guns and waste away in prison)

Yes some songs by certain rappers do speak to me. Yet rap is such a personally form of music, its hard to relate to most rappers. Since I may have only lived bits and parts of what they been through, I mostly just enjoy rap as entertainment

Eminem has helped me express some rage or eased my troubled mind. But he didn't bail me out of jail or give me sound life advice, so he hasn't really helped. The same with all rappers honestly.
