There's a few mainstream rappers who rap about this, but to say "most rappers" is certainty an over-exaggeration.

Yeah I was more so refering to mainstream rap. Of course you have guys like Black Thought, Mos, Talib, etc who obviously don't fit that mold and make real, relatable music. But then that goes back to the question of range/versatility. How often do those guys break outside of that comfort zone and experiment with new sounds or subject matter.

I remember back during Em's hiatus when I needed to fill my rap fix. I was listening to different rappers for different reasons. People like Tech, Rakim, or Wu Tang for the lyricism, people like Pac or Nas for their real stuff, etc. I wasn't getting the complete package with anyone I listened to. I'm not saying Eminem is the be all, end all of rappers and the rest should bow before him. But if the argument is why he's "king", I'd say the reasons I listed above would help make a case for him. And if i personally feel hes the greatest, thats my opinion to feel that way.

Vinyl makes good points, and to the dude who said saying one artist is the best at something is ignorant?
It's an opinion! :facepalm2

No I haven't heard every rapper, and tbh if i was going to say who the next best I'd call out Proof or Pac, maybe biggie or nas. Besides from eminem's genious lyrcism he has a way of connecting to his audience like no other rapper does, and is partially why I consider him a GOAT, but it is true there prob is unsigned hype that may be better so it is tricky saying the best title, but this is what it is

more examples:
My Mom
And I aint giving in, your gonna just sit there in one fucking place spinning again till next thanksgiving and if you still aint finished it I use the same shit again then when I make spinach dip it will be placed into shit, you little shit want to sit there and play innocent, A rack fell and hit me at k mart and they witnessed it, child support, your father he aint sent us shit and so what if he did that aint none of your dang business kid.

Great story telling and ryming

I'll do it, pop it gobble it and start wobblin Stumble hobble tumble slip drip then I fall in bed
With a bottle of meds and a Heath Ledger bobblehead.

Heath and Med, that's nutz, and what a punchline for the end of a verse

Spend some time

Till you pull up and see some other dude's car parked and reach
Up under the seat as your heart starts to beat
Before you make a decision that's life altering
And just as you halt and you turn and you start to leave
You hear them words echoing, almost haunting, that taunting ring

flow is nasty dont give a fuck

Soilder, the whole 2nd verse really

who needs bullets, soon as I pull it, you sweat bullets,
an excellent method to get rid of the next bully,
it's actually better cause instead you murderin',
you can hurt em' and come back again and kick dirt at 'em,
it's like pourin' salt in the wounds, assault and get sued,
you can smell the lawsuits soon as I waltz in the room,

flows beyond

just dont give a fuck

I'm Nicer than Pete, but I'm on a Search to crush a Miilkbone
I'm Everlast-ing, I melt Vanilla Ice like silicone
I'm ill enough to just straight up diss you for no reason
I'm colder than snow season when it's twenty below friezing

flows ill

still dont give a fuck

Got your girl on my arm and I'm armed with a firearm
So big my entire arm is a giant firebomb
Buy your mom a shirt with a Slim Shady iron-on
And the pants to match ("Here momma try em on")

very creative, criminal and role model are great examples to

WUT WUT WUT WUTTTTTTTTTTTTT WUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT WUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT ?

The bolded albums are all better than any fucking album Kanye could ever make. (Okay you can exclude Relapse if you want)

SSLP > Kanye's discography
MMLP > Kanye's discography²
TES > Kanye's discography * 3

And Recovery ain't a pop album, but it's better than 808. It might not be as good as MBDTF for you, but it's at least better than Heartbreak. Because you compare Rap with singing and autotune.

@mybro, I'm sorry but my stannish side has to talk.

I feel like Kanye West's beats are really powerful and moving, and I agree that he's a talented producer (not the most talented one though). His beats are often mesmerizing and haunting but they're also catchy, and that's what makes him so great. But his rapping is just basic and simple, and to be "one of the best ever" you can't just have a good flow/great delivery with simple lyrics.

I mean, you could write better than Kanye West. Maybe not flowing your text on the beat, and you'd probably wouldn't have a delivery as good as his but fuck that, you need to be great at each aspect of rap.

Kanye West can't and won't ever be able to make tracks such as "Going Through Changes" "Déjà Vu" "Sing For the Moment" "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" "The Way I am" because Kanye West simply can't "move" you in a really sad way. Eminem is better at making sad songs because he's passing his emotions through the song but you can actually feel them without even trying to.

I'm not sayin' Yeezy can't make sad songs though. His verse on New Day was great as fuck and I bump that shit like daily. Through the wire is dope too.

But West will never be able to write witty, funny and provocative or depressing songs such as Eminem's. He's probably better at braggadacio, i'll give that. But I feel like there's a fucking gap between them. Eminem is one of the GOAT while Kanye is just basically a great producer mixed with an okay rapper.

I was never attacking your opinion. As a matter of fact, I also think Eminem is the greatest rapper. I was just pointing out that "most rappers" don't rap about purely what you listed. You said you meant some of the mainstream rappers and I agree. It was just your initial wording that threw me. :y:

Well, for me, the GOAT title either belongs to Rick Ross, Gucci Mane or Waka Flocka. Probably Rick Ross, though. I mean... the lyricism... :flutter:

and show me why you deserve to have it all"

are good punchlines. that's all i gotta say on that topic

Invalid. That's your opinion. But cheers for trying. :b:

*name* wrote:Kanye West isn't an okay rapper and LOL @ you implying that Asterisk is a better writer, I doubt Asterisk can come up with a line as truthful, hard-hitting as "people never get the flowers while they could smell em", or create an entire verse filled with Basketball metaphors, or make an entire album with different moods and concepts to be united and form a grand concept "Family-tree" such as My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which described Kanye's carrier in first-person mode in a way a listener couldn't think of. Or simply being honest, truthful, innovative, precise with his feelings and

Asterisk could do that if that was his job and he was doing that 24/24, if he had a homestudio bigger than his actual house right now lmao. Of course he could. When you lock yourself in a basement for 3/4 days, you can only come up with concepts as good as his.
If that was your job, the way you get your money, I swear you would be able to think of a lot of concepts since you already have the writing locked. Just sayin'
Oh and Roman Revenge's is a whole metaphor about a car, that doesn't make his verse better though.

*name* wrote:Of course, Eminem fans always tend to describe how good a writer is by rhyme schemes (Which is the thing that everybody in this forum is obsessed with), but it isn't all about that. For starters, Kanye's flow is flawless and enjoyable to listen to, "good flow"? You're saying you'd prefer filling the sentence with a lot of words and rhymes or to extend the pronunciation of a rhyme for the sake of technical achievements a good flow? You're saying desperately chasing the beat a good flow? Well Kanye flows effortlessly, but I guess effortlessly means lack of effort and skills.

Exactly. Usually, Kanye West is just a step to get into hip hop. It was one of the first rapper I heard, and I was amazed by him and shit. Then I really discovered Eminem and heard that he's far above him, flow wise.
And I'm sorry but extending the words.. Lol Kanye does that too, and his shrugging to fill his bars aren't really better.
Kanye flows effortlessly because he never tried to do some epic hard hitting flow though. Link me to an intensive Kanye West song. I mean, a song like Till I Collapse or Welcome 2 Hell, The Way I Am, Say Goodbye To Hollywood (yes, it is intensive) that keeps you frozen until the song is finished, that won't let you move because you're scared to miss a word or smth lmao. Except maybe the Power remix with Hova.

*name* wrote:Kanye West made dozens of tracks better than the ones you've mentioned, such as Flashing Lights, Can't Tell Me Nothing, Bring Me Down, I Wonder, Hey Mama, Power, 'Heard 'Em Say. These are much better than the ones you've mentioned, who frankly aren't worthy of writing a note of. They're all tracks about Eminem talking about his life and random shit about society, no concept and no creative wonders maybe minus Deja Vu but it's still about Eminem's life. I've summed Eminem's discography in four topics:

Invalid. Any of the song you mentionned (except maybe Hey Mama) are good enough to be compared to Eminem's best work.

*name* wrote:1)Humor (this includes shock value, generally Slim Shady tracks)
2)Story-telling
3)Marshall's life
4)Love songs

Kanye West:

1) Braggadacio
2) His life
3) Club songs
4) Story Telling

It's so easy to make a category like "his life" lmao.

1) Eminem can also do that, maybe not as well but he can.
2) Tributes? Eminem has a lot of tributes songs to hailie. Some on Proof, and there's also a rumor that Space Bound is Ronnie's story told by Em. (Which sounds kind of true since we know he killed himself with a gun, but let's not get into rumors)
3) Eminem.
4) Eminem can also do that lmao. 25 to Life is just a recent exemple. Guilty Conscience is an old one, Brain Damage is also a concept.
5) Eminem.
6) He also does that.
7) Half of his catalog is basically inspirational tracks lmao.
8) True, Em doesn't do that.
9) White Trash excellence (but oh, he gets hated on.)
10) a rapper shouldn't have to do that, but hey, I remember (I edited, because I wrote remember me) Bully, Hailie's song are other genres.

No, you've just seen me in the Eminem section a lot. And I've been really pissed at the lack of Em material lately. Like, I'm finally starting to see how many other artists are working so much harder than Em, and producing all around better material than him. Ever since that track with yelawolf I've just felt completely let down by him. He's been "coming back" for 3 years now. And I'm starting to realize that I don't think Em will ever be back. At least not at the same level anyway.

Em since his comeback was like a fighter jet that went 900 MPH down the runway but never took off.

And then you see Tech over here, doing 200 shows and at least 2 albums annually. And a few mixtapes for the fuck of it. And 100% of his verses are gold by anybodies standards. Yet people are still praising Em when he hasn't released anything good in months?

I'm just frustrated at is all. I mean, a 3 second long clip of Em saying a sentence about LL shouldn't be news, y'know? But it is because Em starves the fans
