Alicia has a great voice, but still think Skylar's voice is impeccable and she is far more talented than most of the other shithead singers we are bombarded with on the radio now. I love Pink, but that's as far as my Top40 love lies. But I've always been more into alternative/punk/rap/grunge even as a kid. I liked Skylar's more alternative darker stuff, and think this is a fun,lighthearted song. Em being on it of course helps me like it more. But if he ever started doing songs with Gaga, T Swift or other popular but untalented hacks? Just no. One song w/ Rihanna was bad enough and I can't stand her, though the one song and it's variations is ok. (But FAR BETTER with Skylar doing it). I will state for the record I will never just like them just because Em did a song with them. They have to have some talent and Skylar does in spades, IMO.

Skylar Grey is a lot better at making hooks on hip hop tracks than any of the artists you mentioned. That's pretty much a fact.
She wrote LTWYL, Castle Walls, and her hooks on Coming Home, Our House (even though ruined by the beat), Rescue Me and Words I Never said are great. She gives tracks that epic feeling.

And her solo work is great too. The buried sessions is something I keep replaying over and over again ever since I heard about her

Alicia Keys is a far better hook and solo singer than Skylar. Skylar's is a good writer but nothing about her is epic. She's simply mastered what she's good at and that's probably because she does it over and over and over. Her voice sounds the same on most of the hooks she's done hence becoming repetitive. The whole rap verse followed by emo hook is getting tired in general.

As far as solo artistry go we know who's proved themselves in that regard.

The most epic rap hook singer is Nate Dogg. The guy could sing one word repeatedly and outshine the entire track. His voice + his timing = impeccable.

For Em I hope he does most of the hook work himself or work with someone completely unexpected. Corrine Bailey Rae, Esperanza Spalding, Lily Allen. Do something experienmental.
