Is Too Short really that great?
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

I don't really agree that Nas is a better lyricist than Em but at least they're not saying someone like Wayne or Drake is the best

Too $hort among these rappers... what a facepalm. He's so repetitive and simple with his rhymes... :n: Snoop Dogg was good but one of the best lyricists? Naah...

Where is Kool G Rap or Rakim, huh?!

And Nas had weak album, just like Em, but Em is more complex. I love Nas anyway.

Long enough resume?

Lmao, Em's first three > Nas' career.

You don't need longevity to be a better lyricist anyway, even though Em has that... Nas has been around 5 years longer. Em was always a much better lyricist than Nas. Nas could never write something like "Stan" and have it be so realistic and chilling, and write dialogue that resonant... Em is also biting in his satirical wit; Nas' humour is very generic...

And let's just take say, "Ether" vs. Bully... "Ether" is quoted as this god of all god rap disses but it's really only the chorus and its vibe which is so amazing; the actual dissing on there is pretty ridiculous, all those gay puns etc. in comparison to Em's psychological dismantlement... there's no comparison.

Em > Nas. Easily.

Menzo wrote:Saw this earlier, if anyone else besides Em is gonna be called the top lyricist, I'd rather it be Nas than anyone else - even if I don't fully agree. But this was a bit iffy:

"It also ties Nas with Snoop Dogg or Snoop Lion or whatever his name is, and it puts the Queens native one plaque ahead of Eminem, Too Short, OutKast and LL Cool J, all of whom belong in the greatest-ever discussion, as well."

I understand LL was a big name but...one of the greatest ever? Lol.

Stan. :shifty:
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

Right now Nas is the best lyricist alive but that's because he just put out a solo album and Em hasn't put out a solo since 2010.

I agree Nas is lyrically a lot and u can see that more on his early albums, and where em got inspiration for some of his lines even on his late albums

cant stand nas. His ingorance affects us all.
Plus imo his music is garbage, besides few songs. In fact i cant even stand his fat face for some reason.

hardly.
He's so ingorant. He really thinks it's like 1960 or smth. I just cant listen to his music without :facepalm so i stopped trying.
That also explains why his music is garbage.
Also he has pretty fat face, look his cheeks they're massive.

Nas is nowhere close to as multi-dimensional or lyrically talented.

Compare his apparent godly diss track "Ether" to say... "Bully"... Nas' disses are tantamount to a child's in the playground - gay puns and very generic insults; his actual ideas and disses aren't even that strong, it's just the way it's delivered / flows and rapped...

Compared to Em who psychologically dismantles the people he beefs with like Freud rapping.

That's just one example, Em is far, far better in every regard - he's more clever, more witty, better rhymes, better structure, more flows and better flows, powerful delivery, more powerful ideas, better humour - just much lyrically stronger in every regard.

Nas is a great lyricist and I'm a fan but he's definitely not #1. Many corny and generic elements.
