his rap is still good but his artistic direction is questionable.

Agree. I hope his new album is similar to Nas's Life Is Good. If it's like that then I'm good.

Not too many talk about how he was before '99
My opinion is: 96/97-2003

He pretty much kept rising and rising and topped it all off with Lose Yourself.

Then he should have just gone and died and would be the GOAT.

D12 World was when he started slipping. At first it seemed innocent since his role was to make 5 black dudes from Detroit radio friendly. But after Encore, it really showed.

Bad Meets Evil certainly didn't kill Watch The Throne, even if you find it better, kill is an overstatement to say the least. Same goes for the cypher, in fact, I think Joe Budden had the best verse. And when he kills someone like Nas or Kendrick Lamar, then we can talk. Drake, Wayne and Nicky aren't that hard to kill. Plus he's been very inconsistent, with a lot of shitty verses added to his name.

During the MMLP days.

@LEVITIKUZ, it's not about if he kills the competition, it's how good he's doing for himself. 2009-2012 he definitely wasn't at his best. Maybe when his album drops he'll be at his best again.

Best doesn't mean most popular though. The Bulls were at their biggest in '96 but Jordan was at his best in either '87 or '91. Of course, with Em it's very arguable that 2002 was his peak. In fact, he kinda hit 3 peaks, a different one with each album, lol.

My vague answer of 1996-2003.

+1!

Btw, 'Lose Yourself' was released in 2002, but most of it was written in 2001. [Just as the movie itself.]
