Relapse came after his drug abstinence and was great in its rhyming and flow but was quite flat, except for some songs. So for that I prefer Recovery over Relapse any day.
That said, I'm expecting something with the technical level of Relapse, greater content than Recovery and as smooth as Infinite. I'm hoping for some Marshall but I think will only get Em and Shady and for Shady I was hoping he would deliver a Shady as a critic of himself rather than random pokes at celebrities (something along the lines of Cocaine and My Darling).

All of his albums sound different, imo. I think now that he's "very sober" it'll be great. He even said himself, he misses his MMLP and old school days. He wants that style again. Going back to that with his new drive could be Classic Eminem 2.0. I think he touched on it with the BME album in 2011.

Which made it that much better, I think.

You believe Relapse is better than even his first three LPs? You're in the minority there.

I'd take any of his albums over Encore and Relapse. Not that I didn't like those albums or the songs.. they're just forgettable to me.

But I fucking love "Beautiful" and "Deja Vu".. but I'm a girl so that explains that :8)
and I love Same Song and Dance.

Source?

I believe it was 60 Minutes but I could be wrong. He said something about how he had to go back and listen to his SSLP/MMLP days and figure out why the songs on Relapse weren't making him feel like those old ones used to. That's one of the reasons why Recovery was so different. Honestly, I watch so many interviews lately that I probably couldn't find the exact video. He also said that he isn't totally happy with Relapse, even though he was happy with it at the time it was released.

EDIT: Found the video! It was The Jonathan Ross Show and about 2:55 in

Yes he was. But even then, a lot of the 'Slim Shady elements' seemed forced to me.

I truly hope he has this figured out and goes through with it on this next LP. If Recovery was his idea of re-capturing the essence of SSLP/MMLP then he was way off.

EDIT: I love Relapse as it is, I'm just saying that's what Em should've done if he wanted more of the SSLP/MMLP feel. Stylistically, he was different.

I don't think he meant lyrically, I think it was more of feeling proud. He was proud of SSLP, MMLP, TES not so much with Encore and Relapse. He seems proud again when it comes to Recovery.

Blu is awesome these days!

Anyway, Ive always found that the corny shit on Recovery was done on purpose to "lure" bubblegum rap fans in.
I mean look at it. Its kind of obvious tome at least. He collabs with all the big popstars and the selfproclaimed best rapper Lil Wayne, only to shred him to bits. He shouts out wayne, nicki and drake etc in interviews to make their fans accept him as something they can listen to. And when they do, they realise wayne and his crew is shit. No dissing needed.

Fucking smart if you ask me.

Edit: Forever was also done to show the world that he indeed is the best out now.
If he had started dissing Kanye, Wayne and Drake instead he would have had notonly them against him. But all their fans and problably the media to. Rap has changed and beef only makes you reverse career wise.

That's possible; just to get his name back out there.

^ yeah but thats pretty much exactly what I meant. See I dont think he compromised that much, he just realised the crowd wasnt ready for such a hard on comeback that Relapse was. So he scrapped R2 and made the more bubblegumish Recovery and BOOM best rapper alive again. Theres more good shit on Recovery than bad, so just a couple (even though there are lots of them lol) corny punchlines and "inotherwords" he showed everyone including his "true" fans that he's still got it. And right after he shut everyone up with Bad Meets Evil. Above The Law makes me fucking forgive him for all his corny shit ever done.

He didn't say he wanted to sound like those records, he never wants to sound the same.

He just meant he wanted to go back to provocation and bear-baiting, which he did. And he never really left it alone, he just fully embraces it as a way of life again on Relapse, and due to the fact the relapse style is it's complete own style, humorous yet sadistic and slap-happy, it actually is reminiscent of SSLP yet sounds completely fresh.

Also, I wouldn't say he was 'way off' with shit like "Cold Wind Blows". He's funny, offensive, playing into the hateful misogynist character but in a real-world way. The music is just worlds apart, but CWB is almost an attempt at like a "Kill You", in fact I think subconsciously he tried to capture that spirit / kind of track, similar to how "Cinderella Man" feels like a sister track to "Till I Collapse".
