I usually don't even listen to them. Unless I know they are basically written like the Relapse era westwood "freestyles"
I just don't get into them. People like to debate who is the best, but you don't really know if a free style is written or what percent of it is written. Just because only 30% of it is written doesn't make it impressive. That only means you get to hear 30% of a decent song while the stumble over words the other 70% until they get to the cool written line again.
That's because the term freestyle has become incredibly vague. It can pretty much be anything from off-the top, to pretty much a proper song with no hook. It's weird.
I really enjoyed the 2009 and 2010 Westwood sessions though, they were great.
I'm aware of what range a freestyle can fall under.
But in general, when someone says freestyle, they mean off the top and people think of it like that.
But it is rarely off the top. Which is annoying. It's false advertising. Just make a song out of it and stop acting like your a talented freestyler.
