If you bought MMLP1 & 2 and listened back to back for the first time then I'm not sure it would impact as much because most of us have been listening 5-10 years or even 15. Music takes a lot of time and listens to sink in fully, you can't grasp something after binge listening to a new album 30 times in 3 days. So I believe if you listen to mmlp2 as your first Em album, it seems you would lose a ton of context

Even MMLP1 needs you to listen to SSLP to truly appreciate the atmosphere it was released in. It was the perfect response to the critics who were going off on how bad SSLP was for the kids blah blah. These days I feel obligated to explain all this history when I introduce someone to Eminem for the first time.

Anyway, to answer the OP. If "The Monster" is the song that made someone buy MMLP2 then I feel sorry for him/her; it's a curve ball haha.

Well yes of course, but a new listener would probably say "I love this album, maybe I should listen to the first." The only album I think needs to introduction is Recovery. You can pretty much piece that together as you listen

I think MMLP2 has enough general appeal to interest a new listener. They would enjoy songs like Berzerk and Survival, and then would wonder what that Parking Lot skit is about, or the whole story behind Headlights. It wouldn't surprise me to see MMLP hitting 11 Million come 2014.

I wasn't disagreeing with you by quoting, I adding another complementing thought to it. :8)

The percent of people hearing Em for the first time is so small it doesn't really matter. He's been around since 1996. He's made 8 albums. Made a movie. Been on most major magazines and tv channels. Eminem is everywhere and almost everyone has heard him and has an opinion on. Except maybe really young or really old people.
