It's not totally dumb at all, but the answer is totally simple. He just needs the extra syllable to maintain the meter of the rhyme. He could have said "I'm sorry mo-ther" or ""I'm sorry mom-my" or "I'm sorry "deb-bie" but "I'm sorry mom" doesn't fit and would sound jarring to the ear.

Come to think of it, I would have rather enjoyed hearing him call her mommy.

He's used "mama" plenty times before to refer to mothers, whether it be his own or others.

Rappers in general use "mama" for "mother" all the time (Tupac's "Dear Mama" is one example).

why are people even talking about this? It's a personal thing between em and his mom. We don't actually know what's going on, they could have been talking all the time.
