Like you said fa-q, nobody cared about his shocking material because people EXPECT that kind of stuff.

And ra1n, indeed the stage of music and everything just changed. Before, videos actually MEANT something and created so much hype and you always knew that Em would come with a nice video. So you would watch your music channel all day to see if for the first time and then you would keep watching another day to see it again.

But now, a video means nothing. You just go on youtube and find it and that's it, so it loses that special thing it had. And Em was recognized for having cool videos so, the fact that videos don't mean anything anymore, he loses some kind of appeal I guess.

BUT, i will say that I was excited for the Beautiful video, but I felt the directing and point of the video had NOTHING to do with the song. Same thing with 3 AM, the visuals don't even match the lyrics, like when you hear the door opening, you don't see it but you still hear it.

Maybe hes not as big as he used to be when he dropped The Real Slim shady.. But hell man Hes still the most popular rapper on earth...Hes everywhere and everyone knows him ,
But yea when he dropped Relapse it wasnt THAT big it was a Regular comeback But good enough you know what I mean ?
And what really brought Relapse down ?
Its simple , He didnt have a Promo Song like The Real Slim Shady .. That song rocked the whole world and people still play it man.

I can't agree on him being the most popular man on Earth. Most people know him but his popularity isn't exactly big in terms of buzz. He's not everywhere anymore either. But I agree full on, about your opinions on Relapse. I'm hoping for some big things and kickass music with R2.

Ra1n you made some of the best points. With the loss of Countdown shows / Music culture shows, artists aren't getting that promo they used to get. Music has stage dived tremendously. I mean Entertainment is really declining badly. Ugh...

Sales are pretty much down for every artist/band/genre.
and that stems from many factors ranging from the economic recession to the increase of pirating/illegal downloading.

we're just so used to Em hitting platinum+ in first week sales without a problem, so its kinda a shock for some fans.

is he still popular as hell? yes. but are fans as passionate as they were about Eminem? i dont think so.

Linkin Park's debut album... "Hybrid Theory" sold over 10,000,000 in US. Their latest album "Minutes to Midnight" has only sold 2,800,000+ in the U.S. so... no..

Coldplay might be a winner... but I can't really find info on how much "Parachutes" sold in America. It was certified 2x platinum in U.S. so, 2,000,000 I guess.
Viva la Vida sold 2,509,536 copies in the United States. So, they're steady. Then again... Linkin Park, Britney, and Eminem sold a relatively large amount of albums in the U.S.... with their albums selling 10 million in the early 2000s. Coldplay has a relatively small (but steady) U.S. fan base.

My feelings are that this loss of popularity that some are seeing doesn't even have to do with the economy or the product... it's just how the industry works. every artist reaches their peak... it's no big deal.

a radio single isn't gonna do any good... and i'd prefer he didn't... because i don't even listen to "hi! my name is"... "the real slim shady".. or any of his lead off singles on the cd. i always skip them.

lol you're failing to consider the time in which these albums came out.
Hybrid Theory came out almost a decade ago.
Of course its going to have tons more sales than minutes to midnight.
m2m came out about 2 years ago and has sold 6.5+ million copies worldwide

other artists with consistent sales: Alicia Keys and Beyonce.

remember: an album that came out over 10 years ago is going to have a ton more sales than a more recent album.

and pirating/economy are effecting sales. Cd sales as a whole were down 20% in 2008.
and down for the 7th time in 8 years.

He will never have the popularity he once did, that's obvious. I feel unless the newer kids who really didnt know em before Relapse started listenin or whatever, and he got a decent number of new followers he can be bigger off of Relapse 2 than what relapse did. But I think it's just that everyone moved on, everyone loved his old shit, after Encore people still only listened to his older shit, so I really don't know. But I will say in the future, when something happens it will have the MJ effect, where one day everyone will rush out to cop his shit again and get into him.

I agree that just lose it wasnt good and i dont really want another song like it - but it was quite successful in the way tht it got airplay and attracted attention if u get what i mean
