yeah they have to wait 20 years from their 1st album before they can join, hence the reason why all the old skool rappers are being inducted, so 2019 i guess

DA.RELAPSE.LP's point about Jay Z is void because you have to wait 20 years after your first album was released before you can go in there. (so it is impossible for Jay untill 2016 and impossible for Em untill 2019) at the earliest.

That's exactly why Run-D.M.C. was inducted. I never said Jay or Em were going to be inducted soon.

Agree with that statement, surprisingly.

I respect him and I'm only using him, because he's one of the most consistent, long-term, big-name rappers out there that can still somewhat appeal to both mainstream and underground. Jay-Z ain't in my top 5 list of rappers, so don't make these comments without knowing me better. :y:
One Mic wrote:Of course he will get inducted into the hall of fame (eventually)

I don't want to bring race into it but Hip Hop is predominantly a black genre. There will NEVER be a white rapper who will achieve as much success as Eminem, or possess the same amount of skill and talent. Both commercial success, and critical success. He will be inducted for this reason alone. Plus...

* He is the highest selling hip hop artist of all time
* He is the highest selling ARTIST this decade (2000-2010)

He had a Box Office #1 with 8 Mile, generated alot of revenue for this. His protege is 50 CENT who hate him or love him as been a massive success too and sold millions and millions. He made D12 blow up and sold like 8million albums worldwide with them.

AND he is heavily respected, especially in the hip-hop community. When you got a pioneer and general legend like Rakim defending Eminem singing his praises, you know he is big:

"Again, sales seems to be the marking point for an artist's quality." - KRS-One in an interview.

Why is this so? No one gives a fuck about sales in hip-hop besides the labels and apparently, you guys. Conversely, Rakim doesn't sell much, but he's a G.O.A.T. If anything, Rakim should be inducted rather than Eminem, because he was a pioneer. No Rakim = No Eminem, probably, or not the one we know today. Besides... Run-D.M.C. was inducted due to their considerable influence on the rap game.

For all the Stans saying Eminem changed the rap game, give me 5 albums that were DIRECTLY influenced by Eminem's music, with proof of lyricism. Don't include artists that Eminem signed.

Kool G Rap changed the game forever the most. Without him, there wouldn't be all this rapping about "how many cars and hos and cash I got", although that's not necessarily a bad thing, looking at hip hop at a wider perspective nowadays.

To be honest, Eminem's music, although how popular, hasn't really made a dent on the game. No other artists, I know of, have completely adopted their styles to imitate Slim's. Prove me wrong?

That’s true, but he has made such a big impact on hip hop, on music in general. Not just with sales but he sort of set a new standard in rapping. And not to talk about the short time frame he did it in. I get what you’re saying but I think he has a bigger shot then most of the old school rappers. :)

Again, he didn't exactly set a new standard in rapping. When was the last time you heard a rapper talk about killing children and raping women?

And he has a bigger shot only because more people know him, not necessarily because he surpasses them in any form or fashion, although he does surpass some of them skill-wise.

Look at all these haters on me when I'm just voicing my opinion. :n:

Can't just accept my opinion and move on? :b: Or at least make a LOGICAL comeback, not just solely based on your Stannery?

^Why would any rapper adopt his style? He is white, for fucks sakes. If any rapper tried to imitate his style, he would get ridiculed in so many, many, many ways. One of the many reasons why he didnt make a such an impact on hiphop (in the eyes of some people, but not in mine). So I couldnt give a fuck less bout him not affectin the rap game so much. Appareantly.

So why the fuck do people keep pointing out how much Eminem has "changed the game" without proper evidence? Give me proof he changed the game. Don't say he sold, because all big singers can sell.

You contradicted yourself, by the way, I believe. :b:

Yeah, but in what music genre?

Marshall mathers LP sold 1.8 millions copies during the first week. A white guy did this. In rap.

When we're talking about whether Eminem should be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, sales is irrelevant for the most part. Run-D.M.C. never sold that much, but their influence is significant.

And shock value was the advertising method for Eminem, at that time. Lack of credibility is the consequence.

da.relapse.lp

It's not so much that he changed the game, it's that he brought the game to a whole different audience. He brought down the race barrier.
The reason Elvis Presley was so revolutionary is because he took predominantly black music (blues), put his own spin on it, and gave to a universal audience that wasn't selected by race. That's what Eminem did in a contemporary setting, and that's why he's so important, not only musically, but culturally.
That is how history will view Marshall Mathers, when all is said and done.

To be honest, I'm extremely impressed you've still managed to keep your cool and lay down good arguments for your side. Just playing the Devil's Advocate sometimes, but I'm surprised on how mature the forum has taken a turn recently; it's fantastic. :y:

I agree on that though. Breaking down the race barriers is a humongous part about letting audiences accept your work. Run-D.M.C. basically introduced the genre and Eminem made it more accessible. I actually like that statement. I surrender the debate now... I'm tired. :b:

Yes, it was a debate, not hate. :shifty:

im liking this debate and LP you make some good points

but for me Em did change the game based on this
no one can emulate his style like they can Kool's, no one can have the same smooth flow on the same type of beats, no one will mix with dre's beats, no one can talk about their mom or their wife without being compared to an Em song now. nobody can be more Off Da Wall and Low Down and Diry than Em
he created the alto ego thing that can have him multiple styles. nobody can cause more controversy that Eminem. the man has great lyrics, most of the time great topics, great flow, great delivery when hes on that hard shit. hes got the word play the multies everything, he is well respected by people in and out of his genre which is very rare to have Elton John and MJ to think you are a genius and immortal.

hes done all that with 5 albums, 3 agruably 4 good ones...

Sorry, let me rephrase myself: Kool G Rap's content was re-used and recycled by later rappers, but his style was not copied, in the least. Even if it was, it just proves his influence in the early 1990's and late 1980's. Biggie flows better than Eminem over any beat, IMO, but that's just me. I agree with the no one mixes with Dre's beats as well as Eminem, but that's not saying much nowadays, seeing Dre's drop in quality over his production with Relapse. I have nothing to say about the mom or wife argument... it's just weird.

Wu-Tang Clan were the pioneers of alter egos, not Eminem. The idea was coined up long before Slim even made Infinite.

Eminem has great lyrics. Repetitive content nowadays. Great flow. Great delivery, in general, I agree. Although he is well-respected out of the genre, I think getting respect from WITHIN the genre would be better, but that's just my opinion again...

He has 5 albums: one classic, two great, and two disappointing. :b:
