Sometimes, I wish Em was as mainstream as he used to be

you guys don't get it don't you? when does artist need new fans? when they want to gain popularity for the whole career ahead. So why exactly does Eminem need that now? he had his time, now he's already past that. Why do you think he went back to "relapse" into his first 2 albums for? because that's the whole purpose of his comeback, to make music for himself and please the already-fans.

Just except the fact that he won't whore himself for public anymore, he's exposed his life for years and look what it repayed him: rehab & overdose. People should be happy that he even came back.

mainstream is the start of decline to rappers. remember when he went mainstream with TES, it's the start of things falling apart.

and honestly, Em's rapping style/content has always been.. outsider, wtf do you think he will talk about if he's on a song with, say Rihanna? or do you want him to start talking about cars/hoes/money... like every others?

I like a lot of cult shit that most other people have never even heard of.
It would actually ruin it for me if one of my favorite obscure movies or artists suddenly became mainstream.
I'm a much bigger Em fan now than I used to be because Relapse is more cult than his other stuff and I feel more unique as a fan.
If Em got as mainstream as he once was, that would be a little disappointing to me personally.

I do agree, though, with the general message of this thread. I think Eminem should be more mainstream like he was 9 years ago -- but only on his own terms, and not following what every other artist is doing.

I hope 2010 is Shady's Year. We all said the same thing before we heard Relapse. Obviously he didn't takeover like we hoped, but with this new record he's working on I have a feeling that he's going to surprise us next year. I have a feeling he'll become popular again (probably not as much as he was from 1999-2004 but generally a Popular artist again) and he's going to hopefully do some crazy shit we won't expect. I think R2 may be Em's actual "COMEBACK" record....

Good I'l second that. Doesnt have to be as big as 1999-2004 but still the biggest artist in the world. Otherwise whs close: Adam Lambert? Lady gaga?
