I'm not grossed out easily, if at all though. Just not naturally inclined to overreact, it has to be absolutely, utterly, mind-snappingly graphic and vulgar to even make me go "That's a bit much" but even then I'm just saying it in passing.

Probably from growing up on Em actually lmao. It's just because it's just words. I mean we all take for granted the intensity of some of the lyricism on Relapse though in terms of its extremity. I mean to me or you or the average Em fan, we're so used to those sort of lyrics it doesn't even remotely faze us. But just picturing a first time listener or middle-aged person unfamiliar with Em or rap in general... Lines like that much seem pretty... Fucking insane lmao.

Relapse probably has his most 'shocking' lyrics to date in some respects. People assume it didn't offend much because people are used to him and because it sounded forced, well, that's partially true but it's also because this generation is much harder to shock. As he recently acknowledged himself. I mean you have to do something truly, globally, sickening and vile to offend at all.

But I hope that's part of what made him change direction and make Recovery. Ditching the shock-antics. I'm actually hopeful that's likely too. Given the fact he said he's going for songs and not one liners now and it's more emotionally-driven. I think he thought Relapse would connect / offend like SSLP and reset everything. It's very good it didn't though if it means a more progressive direction. Em's at his best when challenging authority, commenting on society and yelling at the White House not when he's chopping up pop stars and butt-fucking small animals. He needs to leave the shock-tactics behind.
