Not really. It's still him. Just because he changes the subject matter to something darker or more personal than another track doesn't mean he's rapping from a different persona. I bet if he got interviewed about it today, he would reply in a totally different way than he did back then.

Oh. I agree it's less distinct on Recovery, but I've never differentiated (in his music that is) Marshall Mathers and Eminem. Traditionally the Slim Shady persona has been pretty clear cut.

You guys are making this shit too complicated by making "Eminem" and "Marshall Mathers" separate entities. The only time there's a difference between Marshall Mathers and Eminem is when he's not rapping, like when he's with his girls he's no longer Eminem. But as far as the music goes, Eminem is just his stage name and there's no difference.

Obviously you haven't read his book "The Way I Am". He clearly differentiates the 3, saying the most blatant examples are Eminem - Lose Yourself, Shady - Just Don't Give a Fuck, Marshall - Mockingbird.
