No Em is a mainstream rapper he is far from a pop star the fact he slur's and cusses in his music doesnt make him a "pop star" he is popular and mainstream though but usually "pop stars" make pop music,Em makes rap music.

Depends how you define pop music. People deifne it in different ways. Some say its says, others image others it about whether you're known internationally. What people don't like from pop music is people being fake, being a pawn to the industry's corny stereotypical marketing of its artists. You can argue that Em had to make "The Real Slim Shady" as a single but it was still the Em we loved.

So simply, i define pop stars as pawns in the game and Eminem is not one of them. He just don't make em like he used to

Well, if by pop star you mean a successful musician who makes pop music then no he is not. Pop music isn't music that happens to be popular. It's its own genre, its own type of music. Pop music is watered down, bland rock n roll centring around harmony and love.

Eminem's music can never be categorized as pop music. No matter how many records he sells, he makes HIP-HOP, full stop. He rhymes, he swears, he uses metaphors and similes, he's a smart-ass, he says what he likes. He's not adhering to society, he's doing whatever the fuck he pleases. He's an individualist. An artist who does that can never be called a pop musician because a pop star makes pop music.

Pop stars make music which is as compromised as possible, without shame, to try and connect with as many people as possible at once. That is not what he does and he never has. That's why it's totally retarded when other rappers call him a pop star just because he's huge, fame-wise. He can't help how popular he is, all he can truly control is the content of his music. And that has always remained, true to the bone - RAP.

He is a pop figure in the sense he's very well known in popular culture. But so is... Bob Dylan or Quentin Tarantino. But that doesn't comment what so ever on what they do artistically, it's simply a compliment to their influence, their notoriety. And that's what people mix up, constantly.

Neither of those songs are pop, neither are watered down love jingles. I mean "We Made You", when he's saying shit like "Shady man no! don't massacre the fans!" - THAT is by no means POP MUSIC. Or pop lyrics.

You can call the songs, cheap, catchy, cheesy, but they're not pop music or pop rap. And LWTYL is certainly not watered down. It's very adult handling of domestic violence. Pop music doesn't dare be so blunt about bold situations, with that kind of execution. It's rap music.

That's the thing, people think because they're corny or obvious (for him) or... Re-treads or whatever that they're pop. They're still hip-hop, they can be bad but they're still hip-hop.

And personally I think "Without Me" is still his best 1st single. I like "Not Afraid" but "Without Me", along with the rest of the album is pretty much perfection. It's got that quirky vibe to it without being tacky, it's fast, it's tongue-in-cheek, it's cool, the whole batman vibe. Classic.
