Definitely sounds like a hit, they got the balance about right in terms of rough/soft this time. I do wish singles were, more than this these days but, whatever, it's alright. Em's verse is pretty badass.

Honestly, would you say you like 50's verses?

I'm waiting for the Vevo release of the video (or whoever uploads it in HD). Don't want to have the first view in a crappy quality.

Yeah they were decent verses, especially for him.

But honestly, he says so little. He actually sounded good on this song, unlike lately, but seriously... people are so gullible to think there's any depth here lmao. It's just a vague chorus and 50 saying the same stuff he always does, just slightly better this time, seems like he had help (COUGH, Em).

I just seriously think he has so little of a voice, as an artist. When he first came out he had this whole image and story, but what is he now, he's lost, he just endlessly brags, it's all surface deep, I could seriously write more unique lines myself.

If you listen to Em, there's a whole character there, whether you hate his punchlines or not as many do, there's this whole fireball of documented history, anger, sarcasm, you know his mind, his humour, tongue-in-cheek, life struggle... it's very, dense and he changes emotions from one extremity to the next line to line, he's an actual writer. 50 has nothing to say.

But it's actually more about HOW you say it to me than anything else.

Em hasn't had too much to say for a while now, but HOW he says it remains continuously experimental, ever-changing and surprising. He continuous to play with the English language, his voice, his flows, with rhyming and surprise and amaze me in various ways with his craft...

50 Cent on the other hand, was never much of a lyricist or rapper. Power to the Dollar houses his best lyricism, since then he's been unbearably lazy but he used to at least come up with some dark and catchy hooks that added some somber melody to the genre...

It's not about him having nothing to say, it's that he does it with so little wit or originality. When he writes by himself the attempts are abysmal - he can't write good punchlines, he's a very poor rhymer, his delivery is always the same and his flows are always boring. He never pushes himself or comes up with anything interesting or exciting for the genre or art in general.

Other big rappers (Em, Kanye, Jay - As much as I ain't his biggest fan. Still.), do.

But 50 was never on any of their levels anyway.

I don't mind someone being repetitive if it's interesting, enjoyable or surprises me. Kanye is actually pretty repetitive but he changes his music and styles and keeps innovating so much that it doesn't matter, he continuously sounds fresh. And he's a good lyricist and entertaining presence. 50 just tries to trend hop, he equates success to hits and sales, he ain't interested in art.

"He" posted a status about it on Facebook at least. He has a much bigger following there. Still, they should use every outlet they have to promote the song.

I mean this for the sake of the conversation and not to be a "hater" (I'll leave kayne alone haha) but jay z simply does not rhyme like eminem. Seriosuly people, he said in his song that he purposely dumbed down his lyrics to make more money yet he is still the fucking goat rapper. If eminem said that line, it would be the nail in the coffin. end of story. If em rhymed and wrote about the same things as the rest of the industry he would be titled as shit. Which is absolutely insane.

Oh Jay is nowhere near Em in my opinion. And obviously not the GOAT.

But I mentioned him to defend this notion that I'm only judging 50 by this standard - my point was, Jay for example, whilst not being as creative or compelling as Em, he still does add things to the genre, he still has skill, he can still be interesting and entertaining...

50, adds SO little. I mean, I'm not even exaggerating when I say ALL he raps about his money, guns and women. I mean, that's fucking IT. But again, it's more about how boringly and uncreatively he does it. There's so little mean on the moans it's often cringing. As much as Jay can rap about those things, he has a bigger scope artistically, he has some wisdom, he's still a lyricist, he still brings flows. 50 don't.

StayWideAwake wrote:This makes perfect sense to me. Most of the artists in hip hop today are "entertainers". Not rappers. No one likes to hear that their favorite artist is more of an entertainer than a rapper but it's the simple truth. I completely understand that there is a place in music for this group of "rappers" but they just shouldn't be anywhere near a discussion about an MC.

Yeah, although Jay does belong in an MC discussion.

I'm normally a guy bashing Jay lmao but, Reasonable Doubt? that alone puts him up there. He's definitely not just an entertainer. At his best, the guy can rap, and bring some depth.

I don't know if this has been already pointed out, but has anyone noticed the American Psycho II reference in Em's verse?

American Psycho II:
"I feel like I'm about to snap and minute"

My Life:
"Feels like I'mma snap any minute, yeah, it's happening again"

I don't think that was a reference, just a coincidence of phrasing. The phrase is somewhat common and Em often uses certain phrases multiple times.
