Why is kanyes overrated album being brought up? I'm a big kanye fan, but his album was probably his laziest to date. His voice must be on it for like 15-20 minutes

Agreed 100%. Most over-hyped album of all time. This album cannot even compare to his first 3 albums. His music now is geared towards a whole new group than his first works IMO. He is making music for teenagers and women now, now my generation which supported and bought the shit out of college dropout when that dropped. I bet most the people talking about how great this album is would hear college dropout and think that it's garbage.

Every great album is overhyped to an extent. I love MBDTF, I love all of Kanye's albums. I've been a fan since before College Dropout. The only Kanye album I've heard anyone give bad reviews is 808's, who would think College Dropout is garbage? The thing that makes MBDTF great is it's not a rap album, it's an album of music. The majority is rap, but it's just beautiful music. It is one of the most coherent and masterfully put together albums in the history of hiphop, and I stand by that. There are so many subtle workings of the beats, lyrics, sound effects, etc it's a masterpiece. This album is NOT geared towards women at all, look at it's singles. Power and Monster have way less appeal to women and teens than, say, LTWYL.

Eminem had a #1 album in 2005, a #2 album in 2006, six music videos from 2005-2008, three top 10 singles, two singles at #11 & #12, and another top 40 hit with 'Like Toy Soldiers'.

Just because Encore was technically released in 2004, it doesn't mean once it was released in the shops that was it. Seeing as it was released in November 2004, It carried him through most of 2005, with singles and music videos being released throughout.

In terms of mainstream and non-Stans he was only really gone in 2007 and 2008.

I was dying for eminem news or songs back then lol, and near enough got nothing but collabs (not his best) and rumours about a possible album. I wouldnt include 2005 in his 'hiatus', 2006 is 50/50. But as an artist, especially as big as eminem, he needed an album at least in 2007.

I have a problem with calling it a "hiatus" in general because he didn't do it by choice...he was walking around zombified from pills for 4-5 years. The real him was being held hostage by the pill aliens during that time span.

He did do it by choice.

The pill addiction may of been a major factor but even with the release of Encore, he had announced he was taking a break from his own music.

and then when Curtain Call was released even said it may be the last thing he puts out and he's taking a break and re-assessing etc. and then Proof happened so, that just spiraled it - but the initial 'hiatus' was a choice, he initiated it and was intending to take a solo break anyway.

Well this is a point that bugs me. When people keep saying "MAN DRE'S BEEN AROUND FOR 500 YEARS IN THE GAME MAN, HE STAYS RELEVANT".

He put out two fucking solo albums in the space of... 18 years lmao. That's hardly staying active. Yes he produced for other artists but so did Em during his dead (and extremely active) period and Dre doesn't even do that much now.

He stays relevant by just... not retiring lmao. And by popping up on the odd Eminem track. Eminem in particular has kept him relevant. He deserves just as much credit for keeping Dre on the forefront as Dre does for putting him on it. But, once you reach a certain level, as long as you don't put the mic down or kill yourself you'll still "be around", but Dre gets way too much credit for just 'still being here'.

Not like he was putting out albums every two years during these 18 years. And people's excuse is "oh he's a producer" - well, so is fucking Kanye. Kanye produces his own songs / albums AND raps / writes raps / songs and he's put out FIVE very decent albums, nearly all self-produced, all successful within the past... 6 years alone. And Em helped produce or took part in production on his first four albums and put out four albums in five years, three of which were head-spinning classics. I mean he put out SSLP and MMLP AND TES in a row, from 99-02. Dre is a slug.

And I know I seem I always bag on Dre, I don't dislike him, it just annoys me how much credit he gets lmao. For what he has done now, in his own career I think Em deserves more. Dre didn't do what Em did, and he hasn't made material close to compelling. Okay we get it his beats are banging, but, two albums in 18 years? C'mmmmonn son.
