The beat was better on Throw It Up, and Yelawolf is way better than Obie Trice. Eminem's flow was tight, I liked the new style.

Matter of fact, H:TS wouldn't have sold as much if there weren't promos showing that Em is involved in the project.

I mean come on, We Made You debuted at #9...I think he's capable of going top 5 at least.

"We Made You" was the first single from Relapse, ofc it sold in the top 10 it was Eminem's come back single, "Crack a Bottle" doesn't count it was a promotional single that leaked a year before it came out.

It will surpass the first week sales hands down. As far as in the long run, that depends on the content and singles.

:-k Could be, because it's been a long time since his last Album, fans would love to listen to new Album material, boosting sales even further.

That's what I've been saying since recovery dropped...if he states prior to its release its his last album, sales will explode. But I sure as hell hope it's not :sweating:

No, considering the recent industry sales. Likes of Bieber and Usher are selling less than 250 K and 130 K respectively in the first week. He'll most probably have the best selling album of the year but I don't think he'll outsell Recovery even if the album has 15 Not Afraids.

Justin Bieber's album sales underperformed a bit, but Usher's are understandable imo. His only hit single before the album release was Scream, which is generic, boring, faceless trash, made for the sole reason of getting a chart hit. Songs like that get you chart hits, but they don't sell albums (if anything, they hurt album sales, Usher's album is actually pretty good, but nobody is going to buy it if they think all the songs sound like Scream). Same with Starships by Nicki Minaj, for example.

And if Eminem releases the album this year, I don't think he'll get the best-selling album of the year, since Adele's album has still sold bucketloads this year. But if he releases it in 2013, he'll have a shot.

Also, Em's lead single will almost certainly not debut at #1 like Not Afraid and Crack a Bottle did. Billboard have recently changed the chart rules to include streaming in the chart. This tends to favour hip hop songs, which is good, but it makes all songs debut lower first week (since they usually start out with low streaming figures). For example, Boyfriend by Justin Bieber sold something crazy like 500,000 first-week, and it only debuted at #2 because of lack of streaming at the time. If Eminem's next single gets to #1, I think it's more likely to climb there after a few weeks rather than debut there.

Another thing to take into account is that hip hop is practically "dead" in the mainstream at the moment. The last time a hip hop song went to #1 was Black and Yellow by Wiz Khalifa, which was like 18 months ago. And currently, the highest hip hop song in the chart is Mercy by Kanye West at #14, and there have only been like 3 hip hop top 10 hits in the entire year so far. The genre as a whole is struggling big time.

^ Hip Hop needs the messiah Eminem to salvage it and bring it back at the top.

To be honest, I thought Nicki Minaj could've been the one to get the long-awaited hip hop #1 hit, since she had crazy hype around her 6 months ago, but all she releases is dance songs now. It's a shame really, as I think she could've helped re-popularize the genre.

The only other possible album I can see producing #1 hits in the near future is Cruel Summer (GOOD Music's album). Just because Niggas in Paris was a big hit, so Kanye still has a lot of hype off that, and Mercy has been a fairly big hit (gone platinum), so they have some momentum going into New God Flow (or whatever song they decide to promote next).

Pop artists don't debut with high numbers (with a few exceptions).

Look how big every Rihanna single is, I believe she's got about 12 number one singles (including features), but her album sales are not impressive at all and the best number she's opened with was a little over 230k I think.

If we compare Justin's current first week sales to his last album's, it has taken a major toll. When was the last time the best opening week sales were this low! No doubt the album sales are going downhill with the steepest slope ever. World wide sales are still alright I guess, and Eminem has the biggest fanbase for any American or for that matter any artist in the world; just look at his fB page. You're right about Rihanna tho,
she has always been a single's artist.
