I think it's too early to tell. I remember when Recovery leaked everyone thought it shit on Relapse, and that notion has completely changed. I'm really interested to see how the opinion of this album holds up over the next year. Anyway, I voted MMLP2

In 10 years MMLP2 will be a classic, that Relapse will never become. Ever. Just look. If Em didn't release Recovery after Relapse, people would't consider Relapse as such a great/classic album. They'd still hate accents, content and shit. You consider Relapse as a good/classic/masterpiece because you've lived for 3 years without a solo album and played the shit out of it. You wanted to find another classic and Relapse was the best album for it.

I bet if he released an album after Recovery on Encore level, in 2 years people would find classic in Recovery.

Naaaaaaaaaaah.

Some fans perhaps.

I loved Relapse from day one for the same reasons I love it now. I'm not influenced by anything than me feelings on the art and how it's executed. Always loved the rap style of Relapse and it wasn't at all due to being without solo work for a long-time, if that was the case I'd love every track on there regardless... where as I don't; the only tracks I hate are the ones which DON'T sound like / weren't intended for 'Relapse'. proof that it's the style itself I love, not the years without Em.

MMLP 2 knocked out Relapse and Encore after first listen.

Still struggling to see if it can knock out SSLP and Recovery in time.

I don't think it will ever top MMLP or TES but I am fine with that.

I think the love for Relapse was grounded in the disappointment with Recovery. So, MMLP2 should win this easily.

Still, eventually people on here will get tired of the blonde hair and antics and will want Em to be boring again. And then Recovery will be the new Relapse. Yay!

I don't think I've ever seen such a stark difference in opinion of Relapse/Recovery from real life compared to trshady.

Most Em fans I know felt it was as close to Eminem Show as he was gonna get in terms of maturity and sound. Relapse was the modern sslp/mmlp, Recovery was the modern TES.

Most in real life also agree that it was needed for him to maintain popularity, respect, and relevancy. Relapse 2 would have destroyed his career.

Then I log on here and can't tell if Recovery is the new slang term for Encore or what.

It's like visiting an Obama supporters forum and seeing people praise house republicans.

To me, Relapse and Recovery are about equal. Both are flawed but still very good records, and each offers what the other doesn't.

I agree, Recovery kept Em relevant, and Relapse 2 would've been redundant.

Without Recovery we wouldn't have gotten the awesomeness that is MMLP2.

Out of the people I've met in real life, mostly co-workers, friends, or others in general, I think about 4/5 preferred Recovery. Idk. I never saw much Relapse love at all until joining here.

I think they're fairly close, but I prefer Recovery.

Anyways....

MMLP = TES > SSLP > MMLP2 >> RECOVERY > RELAPSE> ENCORE

Nope.

My love for Relapse was firm from the moment I heard it and didn't know anything about Recovery.

General people are bound to prefer Recovery.

Because to the average person, they seem to relate... relatability to great art.

If they have been through it and the artist says it, it's suddenly great.

But musically and lyrically and even conceptually - Relapse is way better. His flow is better, his writing is better (rhymes, imagery; the whole nine), the beats are better, the hooks are better, the way the songs are put together are better, and it's a all a whole lot more unique.

Recovery is a good album but is much more flawed and generic than Relapse.

^ There's no safety in numbers.

Most people are dumb. Intelligence is fringe.

Most people don't even get the basics of Eminem's best work still. And it's not even complicated, it's playground shit being executed by an intellectual... but even to this day you see otherwise intelligent critics saying (even about mmlp2) things like 'aside from the still rampant homophobia'... like it's a flaw, or incidental, or genuine... lmao. Most people are fucking idiots mate.

So I wouldn't count people who hate it as a sign for anything. They're bound to. Relapse is dense.

Opinions will change as this slowly becomes one of the most monumental albums of all time. Rubin has that magic touch, just wait. He is Yoda.

Relapse will never be capable of widespread acceptance, which is what Eminem needed to retire as the all time great. None of this is essentially Shady, but is all essential for his longevity. The fact that he's 41 makes it all that more impressive.
