First listen - Great, but I think I prefer Em on DTW
Second listen - Awesome, Em on this and DTW are about equal and B.o.B was great, too
Third listen - Phenomenal, Em ate this beat the fuck up, with brilliant lyrics and different voice inflectiosn, and shat out pure genius (then wiped his ass with gold toilet paper)

Definite TES/MMLP material. Probably his best verse since verse 3 of "Lose Yourself" and better than a great deal of TES. Recovery is going to be a masterpiece.

i was more blown away by Stay Wide Awake than this, to be honest. don't get me wrong, i really like this verse. it's the most passionate i've heard him for a long time.

The lyrics are awful. After the first half of the verse, every bar ends with "shit, kid, bitch, realis-TIC, and it"...and his syllables don't even align half the time when he's going for multis.

For a few bars as we approach the middle of his verse, his voice/flow were pretty epic...but the outer portions of the verse are stilted and forced.

But I guess people around here like contrived anger and don't even care about the lyrics so long as they're not about serial killing.

I love the verse but it has its flaws.

For once... IN fact, I think maybe the only time ever, I heard him sort of... Over-flow or miss-time some of the flow. I've never heard him do that before, normally every word is inch perfect. Also, some of it felt lazy, a lot of swearing.

But all in all, a great verse. First time I heard it the switch-up to angry shit me up and the emotion almost made me cry lmao.

and most normal people who are not obsessed with multis & rhymes will choose this kind of song over Relapse 100x times. WE do not see good lyric = multis. WE see good lyric = real shit with substance, stuff that people ACTUALLY understand. I treat Eminem's songs like other artists songs, that why I love songs like this & When I'm Gone while people obsessed with multi think they have 'bad lyric' (lol). When it's all said and done, songs like this with real substance are the ones people will remember him for, not stuff about fantasy killer in Relapse

Well I disagree with that. People confuse the word substance with emotion. Just because he's not rapping depressively / angrily about his past or problems doesn't mean it doesn't have substance.

You can rap about ANYTHING and it be substance-packed. Relapse was full of substance. Irony, character-play, novelist techniques, twisted humour, all sorts of substance in terms of writing and lyricism that take it to a whole other level.

I like both. On Recovery I want a mix and I'd like Em to rap about social events and politics much more than his past, which I've heard 1,000 times over. But not if it means at the total expense of his rhyming skills. I'd take "Stay Wide Awake" over "When I'm Gone".

Anyway, great verse overall.
