"CHAWK" and "CHALK" and "CHOC" are all pronounced the same.
"COST" and "ROSTER" have the same "o" sound... Say "cost her" then say "roster"... they fucking rhyme.

Where are you from? You are really fucked up if you think "chalk"/"coffee"/"balk"/"walk" are pronounced the same as "cock/rock/block/roster."

This is unbelievable. Where are you morons crawling out from?

Assonance and slant rhymes are different. Assonance is like "laying vacant since apes in April ate... etc"... it's vowel sounds.
Slant rhymes = "apeshit" and "vacant" are slant rhymes because "ape" rhymes with "vac-" and "shit" rhymes with "-ant" (int)... you're fucking retarded.

No, you're just pointing out multisyllabic assonance as opposed to monosyllabic.

The vowels in all those words you listed are pronounced the same. If you'd check my location you'd figure out where I'm from instead of being an ignorant asshole.

And yes, true. But you can't deny slant rhymes are a real thing. Almost every rapper uses them otherwise they'd be limited to what they could rhyme to get their message across. Just because the consonants are different doesn't mean they don't rhyme. For example, "stop" and "shot" rhyme.

Except they're not. I've never been to Alaska, but I sincerely doubt your dialect is that warped.

"Roster" is pronounced with the same "o" sound as "lobster." Here's a commercial for Red Lobster, with the voiceover guy pronouncing it the same way you pronounce "block/rock/pop/drop/stop" etc.:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKnnB1UhI9g

The "o" sound in the word "chocolate," on the other hand, is pronounced by most people the same way they pronounce "chalk" and "coffee" and "walk" and "talk." AW. And that's how Eminem pronounced it in Brain Damage.

They don't technically rhyme, though. And that's my point - this isn't exclusive to Eminem, and it's not even exclusive to rap music. Eminem, in his glory days, wasn't bending words/using words that didn't technically rhyme any more than the average rapper. What made him special was how many syllables he rhymed with (technical or not), the way the words fit together intelligibly and smoothly, how he varied the patterns, and how he never sacrificed his intended meaning/message/mood to do it. His rhyme schemes sounded like they were just "meant to be," like he was telling a story and everything just happened to fall perfectly into place.

I agree wholeheartedly with the last part of what you said. I just don't think you're right with the whole "o" sounding rhyme argument.

It's funny because the words you're arguing over (choc/chalk) are pronounced very differently in Australia and probably every other English speaking country.

That's why it's funny. You're only pronouncing it the same because of your accent. They're not meant to sound the same.

Em himself basically says that you're enunciating it differently by saying it like "oar-inge".

EmBase is British.

Eminem is explaining how he is breaking it down into syllables in order to rhyme with it. "Orange" is two syllables. That part isn't debatable, regardless of how lazy speakers may say "ornj."

Are you trolling? 'Chawk' and 'Chock' are the exact same pronunciations, just spelled differently. :confusion:

Actually, "Chawk" widens the mouth, whereas "Chock" opens it up, which affects the pronunciation.

It's very subtle though.
