He shouldn't have a single that sounds like Love the Way You Lie this time imo. Hip hop ballads were the big thing around 2010 time, but the biggest hip hop hits this year have been Niggas in Paris, Rack City and The Motto, which are all club songs.

Relevancy wrote:Eminem fans still care about sales? Eminem has proved he's a powerhouse when it comes to sales, it shouldn't matter to any of you how much he sales nowadays for the simple fact that he has done it multiple times, the actual album content is what matters now... It's boring calculating how much he's going to sale nowadays because you know he is going to sell plenty... what wouldn't be boring is if he actually made made a decent album for once.

It's quite normal with most fanbases. For example, there's a Kanye West forum I go on and we're always discussing his sales and chart positions, and he's in the same boat as Em in that he's guaranteed to sell a lot no matter what.

I'm not sure he'd allow it...if he even can. I mean, if they told him LTWYL would be his lead single, I'm not sure he'd have allowed it (again, not sure what he is allowed to do exactly, but my guess is the label picks the singles). And I'm not sure he will do another song like that. It depends as well on the subject and the featured artist for the hook, assuming it'd be like LTWYL.

Shouldn't a musician have control over what they do with their own music? :n: :n:

I expect him to do what he did with BME. Release a single that reflects the album like they did with Fast Lane, then have a radio friendly single like they did with lighters.

In the mainstream music industry, that's often not how it works lol.

Even in his prime, it was an issue for him. For example, he wanted to release Who Knew as the lead single from MMLP, but Interscope told him he they wanted him to release a catchy "pop" single first, so he made The Real Slim Shady. I've read interviews from back then of Em complaining about having to do those songs.

Obviously, that was 10+ years ago though, things could be different now.

I'm not completely sure about that. His newer fans who started to follow him because of Recovery's poppy singles might not like the image and won't bother .(as someone else noted earlier in the thread, I think).

i used to care a lot about Eminem 's sales when i was a newer fan. but as i listened and studied to his whole discography now all i care about is his legacy. Now i dont give a flying fuck about what his next album will do in terms of sales. i want Em to just carve out a classic at this point of his career.

I think Recovery definitely exposed Eminem to new fans. However, Eminem's music isn't played that frequently on the radio nowadays. That's quite a worrisome factor. He needs to put out a single that the radio will ultimately overplay in order to sell well.
