how is it not poetry? poetry has a very flexible definition. tupac used metaphors, figurative language, irony, wordplay. tupac's work is in the syllabus for some poetry courses @ university.

Exactly, and that's why its called RAP and thats why 2pac is a RAPPER not a poet. Now if other rappers didn't kick that poetry shit then maybe I would of been willing to exaggerate and be like "oh 2pac is more of a poet then a rapper because the only other rapper that does that is...um every good rap song". Lol Nas's poetry > 2pac's poetry anyways.
