I think the song as whole turned out bad due to the beat.

I like Nicki Minaj and she has the most potential of any rapper I've heard in a while. Regardless of her content, her look, how stupid she acts, who's she's affiliated with etc. (before anyone starts), I'm just speaking technically.

And yes I know she used that lame Drake / Young Money / Whatever... Garbage style on "Roman's Revenge", which annoyed me as it's the easiest style in hip-hop.

But in terms of, her flow... she takes the art of delivery as seriously as Eminem. She makes sure every syllable is clear and precise, her timing is dead-on, she does multiple flow switch-ups and most importantly puts her entire personality into the mic.

Which is such a relief after hearing lazy rappers mumble bravado bullshit for so long.

Got side-tracked... Okay, the song...

Like I said, the beat totally ruined it. Why do all these bedroom boffin producers have such an obsession with... Whatever the fuck drum / sound that is that sounds like an ass being spanked every other second. Pianos and melody > that bullshit.

Imagine that song with Em production, fitting the flow and getting atmospheric with the anger etc. It could be classic. I also liked the chorus, I can appreciate why a lot think it's bad but I like it. It's quirky and unique.

As for Em's performance - There was more sexual act bullshit which he's obsessed with doing... Well I mean always really but post 2002 in particular. It gets really annoying when he resorts to it as it's so fucking easy and anybody could do it.

I wish he'd write more lines about life etc.

But this line:
Go take a flying leap of faith off a balcony

Is nearing the quality of his vintage wit and reminds me of this line:
Put a knife in an evnvelope and have you stabbed in the mail

Taking the metaphorical and making it literal, in a mean or anti-social context. That was the magic to Eminem and his verses on "Roman's Revenge" definitely show signs of that DNA much more than most recent stuff and his annoying obsession with emotion for its own sake. So yeah, Em was good-ish, Nicki was okay (though flow was great) and... Well, fuck Swizz Beats. Hack, hack, hack.

Complete Recovery? What do you know SlimSox? Details?
The passion and the flame is ignited
You can’t put it out once we light it
This sh-t is exactly what the fuck that I’m talking about when we riot
You dealin’ with a few true villains
Whose stand inside of the booth truth spillin’
And spit true feelings, until our tooth fillings come flying up out of our mouths
Now rewind it!

He's making it up.

I saw a post by him around the time everyone started to postulate a re-release with him admitting it was a random guess and he didn't know.

Now he's committed to it though so he'll probably profess to have 'contacts'.

Crooked is my second fav rapper listen to rain drops and dream big and his HHW series dude is a magnet with multies and always has that bragging flow which kills it for me. :worship:

Now royce thats a diffrent story because hes just about the shock value and i really enjoy his punchlines the most.

joell is always nice on the mic hes gonna do his thing.

Budden is a great lyricist and ofcourse hes gonna do his thing.

Em will just cream the beat, how many times have u heard Em "REWRITE" his verse, yea hes goin in.

I was in that blog tv session. Sounds like a Khalil beat to me... but who knows. Oh, and if you guys cant hear it on that youtube clip, there's random parts from the movie "Anchorman" thrown in there, like the "LOUD NOISES!" and "I hear their periods attract bears!" parts. Kinda weird I know, but theyre in there.

Good debate between Zu, Base & Amadeo - nice to see some good debate going on here - it's been a while

That line is nothing like his wit from his prime days. It's not really very clever at all. It's fuck all like the envelope line either.

It's not clever, it's just lead up line followed by a shitty punchline.

His verses on Roman's Revenge were simply awful. There's nothing else to it, really. Desperate, vulgar content, crappy Young Money-esque punchlines, choppy flow, shot voice, boring rhymes. Probably his worst verses since his comeback.

(he still managed to better Nicki though - which says a lot about how bad she is)

No it very much is like the wit from his prime days and it very much is like the envelope line. Yes it leads into a shitty punchline, but cutting that off - that line by itself. "take a leap of flying faith off a fucking balcony" is very reminiscent of his old wit.

Taking a leap of faith is metaphorical, he's made it literal. It's mean-spirited and it's a transfusion of contexts, much like getting stabbed in the mail. It's a mesh of metaphor and literal, in a mean-spirited aim. It's not one-word pun with an aimless intention, it's not pointlessly crass, it's clever.

And yes there very much is something else to it. Here's what there is to it, you think they were crap - I think elements of them were crap. Now that's all there is to it.
