Who Else Thinks Relapse is OverRated?

When I first heard it, I was very unsure. Have to say, it took me quite a few listens before I really got into it.

I've just started bumping it again and I love it. To me, it ranks only slightly below SSLP.

It contains the best flow of his career, some word play that is unrivalled by anyone and the way he switches his flow, not only in songs but in VERSES as well is just incredible. On the album he must use about 20 different rhyme technqiues. It's crazy.

For a concept album, it's brilliant and will, for me, go down as his most underappreciated album. I'm a massive fan of the 'Relapse' style but I'm kinda glad his switching it for R2. The best artists change their style from album to album and Em has done that every time, so I'm not expecting something we've heard before.

i agree but the lame accent totally ruined his quality lyrics,i mean it aitn fun to listen...i'd prefer a song with basic lyrics and more entertaining without that lame accent better!

Damn, Must Be The Ganja is actually an underrated song, I don't understand why people don't like it. The chorus is very uninspired but everything else is fine, and the "accent" to me on that song isn't as bad as other songs. Like the 2nd verse, that's a very very well thought out verse, and is enough reason alone to like the song, and the 2nd verse is primarily in a normal voice, though it's kinda a cross between an accent and normal but I hear more normal than accent. I mean, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it, I just think a lot of people don't appreciate Must Be The Ganja for what it is. I like the beat and the lyrics, the beat is very haunting. But whatever, it's up to you. I must be weird though, because everyone else likes the song Hello, and I don't like it that much, I find it annoying, though the verses were very good, his voice was just horrid. It's one of my least favorite songs on the album, and I like a lot of songs off of Relapse, just not Hello. And everyone else does, so it may be just me

That's fair enough. When I say I dont like Must Be.. I meant it not really realted to the accent. And to be honest, I'm not a massive fan of Hello either. I mean, it's a nice track, sick lyrically but, and for some reason I didnt put in my previous post, and as you say, his voice on this is horrible.

I think to Eminem fans, it is overrated..but to the general public, it is underrated.

Eminem fans know what he is capable of, and that we havent heard the best from him in years before his "hiatus". Relapse is a good album, but a bit lazy on Eminem's part. He did not have to stick so much to his accent, as much as it changes from song to song. I wana hear more of Eminem's passionate voice, but to me the closest thing was Underground, and that song had no meaning. Best hip hop album of 2009? Top 2 for sure...but not anywhere near what Eminem should be giving us after 5 years away from the mic.

As for the general public, the average music listener...I think it is underrated to them because not enough people really gave it a chance. Some of my friends never got into the album, and used to be huge fans of Em and D12 and would wana hear anything they put out back in the day. They heard songs like Crack a Bottle, We Made You, 3am ..and never bothered to look any further, missing out on the albums best songs.

He needs to come strong with a first single for Relapse 2, or the same thing might happen. Best advice, as repetitive as it is, DITCH THE ACCENT!!!!

Unlike his other albums where every song had it's own content, Rx has it's content spread across every track in one big, unifying concept. If you don't add it all together, you'll miss it completely.

As they do with the word "substance". Subject matter is not relative to substance. Just because all he talks about is murdering people doesn't mean that's a lack of substance, it's HOW he does it which indicates that.

Relapse is one of his most substance-filled albums. Line from line, packed with mini-fables, persona-juggling, listener-connecting, irony... As all of his albums but especially of late with things like "Buffalo Bill".

He by no means skimps on the substance or depth regardless of the fact he's talking about killing. He takes it as deep as he can at that time, pushes the mindset to the extreme and is obsessively descriptive.

Just because he's not talking about his real life, or depressive shit you wanna hear doesn't mean it's not content.
