Just listening again, I love this shit.

I hope the album is more than just a 'clear headed Recovery-esque' album. Hope it has dark concepts and original themes... but man, all that aside, this song is just crack.

Finally sorted the fucking production too... again, I hope the other tracks are more rap-like in production, not just guitar/clap kinda beats... but man even this beat, it's SUCH an improvement over Recovery production, thank god he stopped using overproduced shit with shitty drums... this music sounds like a solid backbone, no shitty fucking tin drums and too much going on... it's just right.

First off, saying 'Ye switched things up and made shit interesting, while Em remains stale is silly to the point of stupidity. You're basing this on what? a song for a videogame that we have no Word of God confirmation is on the album. Yeah.
Even claiming that Survival is no different from songs from Recovery makes no sense, man. I know it may be hard for you Kanye Stans, but wait, you hear that dude saying words that rhyme over that admittedly shitty beat? That dude's name is Eminem, and those are called lyrics. Listen to them. Dont be distracted by the fancy sounding drums and all that extra shit. Now come back and tell me New Slaves > . Or the second second verse is the greatest of all time. Foh.

The only 'poor man' element, if any, is the production/hook in comparison...

But when you actually look at the lyricism, I actually think some of his lines and thoughts on this and "Cinderella Man" are better than TIC... it's like, broader, but more self-aware... on TIC he still comes form somewhat of a petulant mindset, is more like 'rapper about rap' kind of lyrics, where he uses more general slang and petty insults, compared to like...

The whole 'ruffle feathers' and 'self-esteem' sections which are more poetic and clever than dropping bombs etc. I think, it just sounds sharper and more adult.

There's nothing 'poor man' about his rapping here. Shit is top-shelf.

The reason for this song not being the first single or on the album could be a new marketing strategy. Beyonce did the same for H&M.
