Why do you want Eminem to revert back to his old self?

Postby chrismoz » Dec 3rd, '10, 03:55

I don't understand why so many people wish this. It seems like people who feel this way exhibit a refusal to accept change. If you wan't SSLP, MMLP, or TES - go listen to those albums.

Eminem has shown growth with his material (with the exception of Encore)..although songs such as Ass Like That, My First Single and Toy Soldiers are creative in their own right. Eminem's voice along with his style and portrayal of emotion has changed. He's matured and even though you can argue that his new music is or isn't better then his old stuff, it's still on par with it.

Since his return, Eminem has proven and re-invented himself. I understand that I'll never get the old Eminem back but I firmly hold a belief that a lot of his new stuff is better than his old stuff. I really enjoy the new flows and the maturity that accompany his new style. Dude is on his game.

Personally, I think Despicable freestyle is the best Eminem track I've ever heard.

good luck with the topic, you speak some truth that I personally agree with (since Recovery is my favorite album) but expect lot of answers like
"because he was making better music back then, he's garbage now"

Once again, the real question that we should ask is "WHY NOT"? :flutter:

It's not that I want him to "revert back to his old self" He can continue to evolve. That's fine. As long as he isn't evolving into an apologetic whiny bitch that has forced punch lines and shitty beats like Recovery gave us. I would take that shit he wrote on the napkin for Rolling Stone over TAKE MAH HAND any day.

His songs have no meaning anymore. Not Afriad was about him coming back and kicking the habit while Love the Way You Lie spoke about women in abusive relationships. Almost all of his old songs either had a meaning or told a story. It's not like that anymore. What's up with him singing about love all the time now?

I like thst he never seems to give you something you've felt you heard before, the re-inventing is key and is why he is killing shit now sales wise, awards wise, etc. so yeah

When I said that (a few times) I don't mean literally. I just mean the quality and type of music. I feel like he's too apologetic and a bit conforming now (the punchlines :n: ) and his content isn't that great anymore. Plus, the angry, don't give a fuck, off the wall style he had was dope.

Some of you expect him to dye his hair blonde again and go out there talking about homosexuals and slapping his mom ? he is fucking 37 years old... i hope you people know what it means to grow up!!! I love his old music and yes he had 3 amazing albums in a row but honestly people change.

If eminem would to ever go broke, then you will have you're old eminem back. trust me on that he still has it in him but i think he just doesn't want to get that BIG again... Seriously some of his fans are nut jobs.

LTWYL is his most meaningful song in a long time.

Lol. Every song has "meaning" to some degree or another. I think you mean magnitude of message. Because songs like Business and Square Dance lack emotional messages. Same thing with tracks like Drug Ballad and As The World Turns and So Bad. There's a difference in quality though. Some old are better then new and vice versa.

I disagree. 25 to Life and Your Never Over have more "meaning" and are just as personal.

All a metter of opinion I guess.

Just don't understand why people dislike the new style. Seems like those people are stuck in the past. I mean how good would a 'Real Slim Shady Pt. 2" sound...

Ps. you are contradicting yourself. his songs have no meaning then you go on to talk about what each song is about...

It makes sense in a way and it's great to see him evolve as all great artists do, but the whole Jay-Z "If you wan't my old shit buy my old album" is dumb to me. Ok, I will go buy your old album because the quality of the new one is trash. Now Recovery's far from trash but would I rather have an Eminem Show 2? No doubt about it, it was better in quality period. Almost every song from the album was classic. I could listen to 3 albums-worth filled with MMLP/Eminem Show material because of the fact that it's just flat out better than what he's doing now. I trust that his next album will be even better than his last 2 as it seems like he's improving and working with SH but he needs to make his own album with 2 or 3 total features and no poppy beats and i'll be happy.
