Hilarious misconceptions/quotes pertaining to Eminem

Postby EminemInsider » Dec 4th, '10, 23:48

List your favorites. I'll start...

"Kill You is a song about raping his mother"

ONE LINE in the entire song, a SARCASTIC line that is fucking explained as sarcasm in the next bar...and now the whole song is "ABOUT raping his mother":

"Just bend over and take it like a slut, OK ma?/Oh, now he's raping his own mother/Abusing a whore, snorting coke, and we gave him the Rolling Stone cover?"

"Eminem says 'faggot' way more than other rappers, that's why he's so criticized for homophobia!!!111 Eminem is obsessed with fagz!"

I took an official tally of the times Eminem said "faggot" or "fag" in each of his first 3 albums.

SSLP: 0 :confusion:
MMLP: 12 (2 of these for "usin' the 'fag' word so freely/It's just me bein' me/Here, want me to tone it down?/Suck my fuckin dick you faggot, you happy now?" 4 of these dissing ICP, 1 of them censored with "and your attorney Fred Gibson's a faggot," in fact, 6 of the 12 are in "Marshall Mathers")
TES: 4 (I'm including the line, "I wouldn't have to go/Eenie menie minie mo/Catch a homo by his toe" in My Dad's Gone Crazy, as well as "Now I'm catchin the flak from these activists when they raggin'/Actin like I'm the first rapper to smack a bitch or say 'faggot?'" in White America. The only other ones were in Cleanin out My Closet..."my faggot father must've had his panties up in a bunch." and in Without Me directed at Moby)

So that makes a very loose 16 times in 3 albums...an average of about 5 per album...inflated by one release where he was almost entirely using it just to insult people he was dissing. 4 of the 16 were "explanatory" lines that were making a point about the use of the word itself. You mean to tell me that most rappers average WAY fewer references to "fags" than that?

"He writes songs about killing his mother and girlfriend"

-First part of that is, of course, false. He never wrote a song about killing his mother. Second part...people are using "he writes songs" rather loosely. He has written two songs with that concept that are directly linked to each other. That's it. The way people say this, you'd think Eminem had 5-6 songs per album about killing Kim and his mom. I remember buying into that crap before I started really listening to Eminem in 2000...how disappointed I was to find that there weren't at least a dozen songs on SSLP and MMLP about stabbing gays, killing his wife, raping his mother, and shocking and offending me.

LOL, I know, I think it's pretty close. He's been saying it way more on the last 2 albums and yet the general consensus is that he has "matured." I guess the more touchy-feely production and substantially lower amount of wit makes him seem less threatening to people.

"Eminem can rhyme words that don't rhyme, and it is this quality that makes him unique as a rapper"

Any decent (well basically just any) rapper does the exact same thing...if you only use words that TECHNICALLY rhyme, the song is going to fucking suck and have virtually no compound-syllable rhymes.

For example, Jay-Z used the rhyme "knew-what-a-plan-was/you-un-der-stand-us"...doesn't technically rhyme, but the sound of the syllables is similar. Nas: part-ed-the-sea/tar-get-ed-me...etc.

"Eminem is a wigger! He just tries to be black!"

I hate it when they say that shit.
"This dude doing this interview wants me to spin a few,
Lyrics while I tie my tennis shoes in the nude
A romantic interlude in a livin’ room,
In an inner tube with a dude with a bit of lube
Fuck that I’m sniffin’ glue, sippin' gin & juice,
And a little bit of paint thinner with my dinner too,
You better pay me for my bars like your rent is due,
Now hurry up and finish dude before I finish you."

"he just speaks with a beat" yeah i heard that from a lot of anti-rap guys.

Fuck them, if they think rapping is just speaking.

Yeah, noticed this as well. I always wonder... why?

Why does he need to say "faggot" all the time now, and shout obscenities at women?

The use of "fag" was purposeful back in the old days, but now saying shit like "rational as a rash in a fag's asshole" etc. is just pointless.

Then I realize: he doesn't have much to rap about anymore so he falls back on that crap.

Yes, but that particular line is not a good example. It's one of my favorite lines on Recovery (especially as coupled with the Elton reference in the next line)

"Recovery is Eminem's best album."

"Eminem is a bad influence on our generation."

"Eminem is only so popular because he's white."

"he fell off hard. encore was his last great album and is better than recovery by leaps and bounds" not a direct quote, but something along this line.
